The set visit was shared by the official Shifting Gears Instagram account, according to reports published December 5 and 6, 2025; those reports did not identify the exact date of the visit.
What happened on the Shifting Gears set
TVLine reported that Allen turned toward the kitchen expecting to find his current TV daughter, Kat Dennings, at the refrigerator, but found Dever instead. In TVLine’s description of the official show video, Allen stopped in surprise as the audience cheered, then hugged Dever. Dever also hugged Dennings. TVLine’s December 5, 2025 report linked to the show’s Instagram post; the scene details here are attributed to TVLine’s account of the clip.
Shifting Gears shared the footage on its official Instagram account, according to TVLine and follow-up coverage from TV Insider and Us Weekly, both published December 6, 2025. Us Weekly reported that the show’s social post thanked Dever for stopping by.
Why the reunion mattered to Last Man Standing fans
Dever played Eve Baxter, the daughter of Allen’s Mike Baxter, on Last Man Standing. TV Insider reported that she was a series regular for the sitcom’s first six seasons and became a recurring cast member after the series moved from ABC to Fox. TVLine identified the show’s 2021 series finale as the last time Allen and Dever appeared on screen together.

This was an off-screen visit to the set of Allen’s later sitcom, not a new Last Man Standing episode or an on-screen revival. The reports were published on December 5 and 6, 2025, but do not establish when the visit itself took place.
Their last shared scene came in the 2021 finale
Dever’s final Eve scene for the Last Man Standing finale was filmed apart from the cast. TVLine reported that she was committed to the film adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen, while COVID-19 protocols limited contact with cast members. Executive producer Kevin Abbott explained the production constraint at the time: “The reason why she could shoot in front of the crew, but not the cast, is because the crew’s all masked. They shielded up, but the cast [could not], and there was not time to do the proper quarantine procedures.”
