Justin Baldoni and the other Wayfarer parties missed the June 23, 2025 deadline to amend their dismissed lawsuit against Blake Lively and others. That was a deadline to try to revive claims by filing an amended complaint—not the deadline to appeal. The court later entered final judgment but deferred appellate finality while it considered Lively’s separate request for legal fees.
What deadline did Baldoni miss?
On June 9, 2025, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York dismissed the amended complaint brought by Baldoni and other Wayfarer parties. The court allowed them to amend two claims by June 23. They did not file an amended complaint by that date, according to the court’s later account in its June 12, 2026 opinion and order.
The missed date was therefore a chance to amend the complaint after dismissal. It was not an appeal deadline. The lawsuit had asserted claims including defamation and extortion-related claims against Lively, Ryan Reynolds and others; those were the Wayfarer parties’ allegations, not findings that the allegations were true.
Did he also miss the deadline to appeal?
The available court record does not support saying that Baldoni missed the appeal deadline in June 2025. The court entered final judgment in the Wayfarer Action on October 31, 2025, but deferred appellate finality while Lively’s fee motion remained pending. E! later corrected its initial report to clarify that the appeal deadline had not expired before the fee ruling.

That distinction matters: the June amendment deadline and the timing for an appeal were separate procedural events. The sources reviewed here do not establish whether an appeal was filed after the August 2026 fee award, so the case should not be described as currently on appeal—or definitively not on appeal—without checking the appellate docket.
How did the related cases end?
The dispute grew out of the production and promotion of It Ends With Us, the film based on Colleen Hoover’s novel and starring Lively and Baldoni. Lively’s separate case included allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation, which Baldoni and the other Wayfarer parties denied. Court rulings on motions resolved claims at particular procedural stages; they are not a blanket finding that every disputed allegation by either side was true.

In the separate Lively Action, an April 2, 2026 ruling granted the Wayfarer parties’ motions in part and denied them in part. Three claims remained at that stage: two retaliation-related claims and one contract-rider claim. The cases were set for trial in May, but the parties filed a settlement notice and joint stipulation on May 7, 2026. The court later wrote, “The settlement ends both matters—with one notable exception.” That exception was Lively’s preserved motion under California Civil Code § 47.1 for attorneys’ fees and related relief.

In August 2026, the court awarded Lively $363,245.40 in attorneys’ fees and $44,206.35 in costs. The award resolved the preserved fee motion, but the reviewed sources do not establish what happened next in the appellate docket.
