Spoilers for the film’s premise and animated-world montage. Part Three ends the Tomorrowverse story arc, but its montage of familiar DC cartoons does not establish that their original universes have been permanently erased. Screenwriter Jim Krieg described the sequence as a loving return to earlier animated worlds; his in-universe explanation is that the versions shown were Tomorrowverse doppelgangers. DC’s column says that explanation is not confirmation or denial of future plans.
What does Part Three conclude?
DC describes the film as the conclusion of its three-part animated Crisis story and the end of the Tomorrowverse arc. That continuity began with 2020’s Superman: Man of Tomorrow. Part Three is directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jim Krieg.
DC’s official synopsis sets out the scale of the crisis: the Anti-Monitor attacks the surviving Earths trapped in a pocket universe, vaporizing worlds and their inhabitants. On the planets that remain, time itself is shattered, and heroes from the past join the Justice League and its allies for a last stand. That is the official setup; it does not, by itself, settle every character’s fate or explain every mechanism behind the ending.
Is the film a direct adaptation of the 1985 comic?
No. It draws on the basic framework of Crisis on Infinite Earths, the comic event by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, but it is not presented as a scene-for-scene recreation. DC’s editorial account describes a film adaptation that also builds on the Tomorrowverse films that came before it, including Justice League: Warworld and Green Lantern: Beware My Power.

That distinction matters when comparing the two. The animated trilogy has its own continuity and uses earlier Tomorrowverse stories as part of its setup. The comic is the source event, not a promise that the film reproduces its plot, sequence of events, or every continuity choice.
Did the montage erase the original animated universes?
DC’s August 7, 2024 Ask the Question column addresses the montage, which appears to show versions of worlds associated with Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, Teen Titans, and Super Friends being destroyed. The column’s author contacted Krieg, who explained that the sequence was meant as an affectionate return to those animated worlds:

“We thought it was a great opportunity to quickly revisit some of the animated versions of those worlds. It was certainly meant lovingly, as a kind of victory lap.”
Krieg’s in-universe explanation is that the destroyed realities were Tomorrowverse doppelgangers—similar, separate worlds, rather than definitive versions of the earlier shows’ original universes. He also said:

“To be clear, no universes were harmed in the making of these motion pictures. Like every supposedly dead superhero, any or all of them are available for a miraculous return.”
DC’s column explicitly cautions that it should not be read as confirming or denying future plans. Krieg’s explanation clarifies the intent behind this montage; it is not an irrevocable ruling about what DC may do with those properties in future stories.
How can you watch or own the film?
DC lists the film as available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and Digital. A physical edition of Part Three is a direct option for viewers who want to own the movie; retailer stock and current prices can vary.

Penguin Random House lists DC Finest: Events: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part Three as a 568-page paperback, ISBN 9781799510314, scheduled for November 17, 2026. The publisher describes it as collecting the original comic event and related issues. It is source-event reading, not an edition of the animated film.
