The Los Angeles Times reported that Lewis suffered a heart attack while exercising with his son Miles at the Motion Picture Hospital in Woodland Hills. The newspaper attributed details about Lewis’s previous heart problems to another son, Lightfield Lewis. This is the attributed account reported by the Times, rather than a cause stated in every report.
Who was Geoffrey Lewis?
Lewis was a prolific character actor whose career spanned film and television. The Television Academy biography credits him with more than 200 roles. He frequently appeared opposite Clint Eastwood, including in High Plains Drifter, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Bronco Billy, Every Which Way But Loose, and Any Which Way You Can.

- Eastwood films: Alongside the titles above, Lewis appeared in Pink Cadillac and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
- Other film roles: His credits include The Devil’s Rejects, Maverick, Double Impact, The Lawnmower Man, and Dillinger.
- Television: He appeared in series including Bonanza, Mission: Impossible, Gunsmoke, The Waltons, Hawaii Five-O, The A-Team, The Golden Girls, My Name Is Earl, House M.D., and The X-Files. He also appeared in the 1979 television film Salem’s Lot.
Lewis received a Golden Globe nomination for playing bartender Earl Tucker on the sitcom Flo. The Academy biography does not give a year for the nomination. It also notes his starring role in Land’s End.

CBS/AP reported that Juliette Lewis posted a photograph with her father on Instagram after his death. In a tribute quoted by the Los Angeles Times, she wrote: “He loved us so. So so much. I am forever my father’s daughter and he will never [be] gone.”
