Yuta spared Ryu Ishigori and Takako Uro because he could get the Culling Game points he needed without killing them—and because he is inclined toward restraint. The manga keeps those motives intertwined: Ryu suspects the new point-transfer rule explains why they survived, but Yuta never says strategy was his only reason.
What happened after the Sendai Colony fight?
After the domain-expansion climax in chapters 179–180, Yuta survives the three-way battle and defeats both Uro and Ryu. In the final exchange, he uses Uro’s copied space-warping technique to redirect Ryu’s Granite Blast. Chapter 181 begins with the aftermath: Yuta has left both opponents alive and asks for their points.

Ryu calls Yuta “too soft.” When Ryu’s Kogane informs him of a newly added rule, he realizes Yuta may have spared them so they could transfer their points. Yuta does not clearly confirm or deny that explanation. Chapter 179, Chapter 180, Chapter 181
How did the point-transfer rule make sparing them useful?
Rule 10 allows a player to transfer any desired number of points to another player. The official anime site states the rule in Japanese as “泳者は他泳者に任意の得点を譲渡することができる.” Because defeated players could give Yuta their points, killing them was not necessary to obtain that resource. Ryu and Uro transferred points to Yuta after the fight. His resulting total was 190 points, a figure recorded in an April 2022 correction by the official Jujutsu Kaisen account and reported by ComicBook.com. ComicBook.com’s report on the correction
Was Yuta merciful, or was it strategy?
The practical reason
The new rule gave Yuta a way to gain points from living opponents. Ryu’s inference makes the tactical logic explicit: sparing them could serve Yuta’s goal just as well as killing them, while avoiding an unnecessary death.

The character reason
The chapter also frames Yuta’s choice as consistent with restraint. Ryu’s “too soft” remark contrasts Yuta with a more ruthless idea of strength. Uro says overwhelming power beyond ordinary sorcerers and curses can appear as a calamity that disregards everything else; Yuta’s conduct offers a counterpoint to that destructive model.
These explanations need not cancel each other out. Yuta wins and benefits from the point transfer, but the scene does not establish that he spared them solely as a calculation. The point-rule inference belongs to Ryu; Yuta does not turn it into a plain confession.

What became of Ryu and Uro?
They survived the Sendai Colony battle and handed over their points rather than being killed by Yuta. The official anime timeline likewise says Yuta defeats Ishigori and Uro and receives their points afterward. Official anime site: story timeline
For the collected manga, Shueisha’s Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 20 contains chapters 179–180. The aftermath and point-transfer exchange is in chapter 181, so Volume 20 alone does not cover the full explanation.
