Who is Uraume in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Uraume is a sorcerer from Sukuna’s era, not a curse spirit. Their loyalty to Sukuna bridges the roughly thousand-year gap between the Heian-era history and the modern plot. In the present-day story, Uraume cooperates with Kenjaku and supports the effort to bring Sukuna back to power. The character reference connects Uraume’s actions to the Shibuya Incident, Culling Game, and Shinjuku Showdown portions of the manga.
The manga is complete: VIZ’s official chapter index lists chapters through 271. The series’ final stretch is therefore manga material, whether or not a particular arc has been adapted in the anime.

What gender is Uraume?
Gege Akutami’s post-series clarification, reported by ComicBook.com on October 24, 2024, says Uraume was originally a man and reincarnated in a female body named Himi Shiori after making a contract with Kenjaku. ComicBook.com’s report attributes the clarification to Akutami, who said he had intended to include it in volume 27 but missed the opportunity.
This distinction matters: Akutami’s statement describes Uraume’s original sex and the body of reincarnation. It does not, by itself, establish a broader contemporary gender-identity label. English translations may use gendered pronouns, but those choices are not a separate creator clarification.

What are Uraume’s powers?
Uraume’s innate technique, described as Ice Formation, creates and controls ice. The named applications include Frost Calm, a freezing mist used to immobilize opponents, and Icefall, an attack that produces and propels ice. The character reference also records Uraume using reverse cursed technique. These are abilities within the series’ fictional system.
What is Uraume’s role in the story?
Uraume helps carry Sukuna’s influence into the modern era. Their historical service to him and alliance with Kenjaku make them part of the effort to restore Sukuna, rather than an independent antagonist with an unrelated agenda. Uraume appears across major manga storylines, including Shibuya, the Culling Game, and Shinjuku.
