For a first watch, use release order: Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 (episodes 1–24) → Jujutsu Kaisen 0 → Season 2 (episodes 1–23) → Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1 (episodes 1–12, overall episodes 48–59) → Season 4: The Culling Game Part 2 when it is released.
The chronological order is different because Season 2 begins with the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death flashback, which takes place before Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and Season 1. That order is best saved for a rewatch or for viewers who specifically want the story arranged by in-universe chronology.

The spoiler-safe watch order
- Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 — episodes 1–24
- Jujutsu Kaisen 0 — feature film
- Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 — episodes 1–23
- Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1 — episodes 1–12, numbered episodes 48–59 in the overall anime sequence
- Season 4: The Culling Game Part 2 — watch when released
This is the recommended order for someone discovering the series for the first time. It follows the anime’s release structure, preserves the timing of its character introductions and reveals, and places the prequel film where it provides useful context without moving major backstory ahead of the main cast’s introduction.
Jujutsu Kaisen release order
1. Season 1 — episodes 1–24
Start with all 24 episodes of the first television season. Season 1 introduces Yuji Itadori, the Tokyo Jujutsu High setting, the central cast, and the early curse-related conflicts. The official episode numbering identifies this installment as episodes 1 through 24, and its story reaches through the Death Painting arc.
Do not skip ahead to the prequel simply because Jujutsu Kaisen 0 occurs earlier in the fictional timeline. For a new viewer, Season 1 establishes the characters and relationships that make the film’s later context more meaningful.
2. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 — feature film
Watch the film after Season 1. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is a prequel centered on Yuta Okkotsu, and it expands the background of characters and relationships that become increasingly important later in the anime. Its original Japanese theatrical release was December 24, 2021.
Although it is a prequel in story chronology, its post-Season-1 placement is the most useful first-watch position. It lets the audience recognize the broader significance of the film without requiring the opening episodes of Season 2 to be interrupted.
If you want a physical reading companion after watching the film, the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 manga presents the same prequel story in its original manga format. It is optional: reading it is not required to follow the anime.
3. Season 2 — episodes 1–23
Watch the entire second season in its broadcast order. It contains two distinctly positioned story sections:
| Season 2 section | Season 2 episodes | Overall anime episode numbers |
|---|---|---|
| Hidden Inventory/Premature Death | Episodes 1–5 | 25–29 |
| Shibuya Incident | Episodes 6–23 | 30–47 |
The first five episodes are a flashback to Gojo and Geto’s student years. The remaining 18 episodes move into the Shibuya Incident, which follows the events of Season 1 and is set on October 31, 2018 in the series timeline. The Shibuya storyline directly leads into the Culling Game material.
Rank #2
For a first watch, do not move episodes 1–5 to the beginning of the franchise. They are deliberately placed at the start of Season 2, after the audience has already encountered the characters and world in Season 1 and the prequel film.
4. Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1 — episodes 1–12
Season 3 continues from the post-Shibuya storyline and begins the Culling Game arc. The season’s overall episode numbers are 48–59. Its Japanese broadcast began on January 8, 2026, with a one-hour premiere that combined the season’s first two episodes. The official anime materials identify episode 59 as the Season 3 finale, broadcast on March 26, 2026.
Watch the season as a continuous installment after Season 2. Its participants, colonies, and conflicts build directly on the consequences of the Shibuya Incident, so it should not be treated as a standalone spinoff or watched before Season 2.
5. Season 4: The Culling Game Part 2
Season 4 is officially in production under the title The Culling Game Part 2—also referred to in Japanese materials as 死滅回游 後編. It is the continuation to watch after Season 3.
As of the authoritative research date of August 12, 2026, the official sources reviewed had confirmed production and released a teaser PV but had not confirmed a release date. Treat any unofficial date or platform listing as unconfirmed until the anime’s official channels announce it.

If you want the events arranged by when they occur in the fictional timeline, use this order:
- Season 2, episodes 1–5: Hidden Inventory/Premature Death (overall episodes 25–29)
- Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Yuta Okkotsu’s prequel story
- Season 1, episodes 1–24
- Season 2, episodes 6–23: Shibuya Incident (overall episodes 30–47)
- Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1 (overall episodes 48–59)
- Season 4: The Culling Game Part 2, when released
The first five episodes of Season 2 are set during Gojo and Geto’s student years, before the events of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The film then takes place before Yuji’s introduction and the main Season 1 storyline. Season 1 is followed by the Shibuya Incident in Season 2, then the Culling Game continuation in Seasons 3 and 4.
Should you watch chronologically or by release date?
| Viewer | Best order | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First-time viewer | Release order | Preserves the anime’s intended introductions, reveals, and context. |
| Rewatcher | Chronological order | Places the Gojo/Geto backstory and Yuta’s prequel events before the main storyline. |
| Viewer avoiding extra material | Season 1 → film → Season 2 → Season 3 | Skips optional compilation presentations without losing story content. |
| Collector | Release order, with physical editions as desired | Keeps the narrative sequence intact while allowing films, manga, or home-video editions to be collected separately. |
Chronological order is not wrong, but it changes the timing of character introductions and backstory. In particular, placing Hidden Inventory/Premature Death before Season 1 makes the series’ central historical context available earlier than the anime originally did. That can be rewarding on a rewatch, but release order is the safer recommendation for a first viewing.
Where the compilation movies fit
Hidden Inventory/Premature Death – The Movie
Released theatrically in 2025, this is a compilation of the first five episodes of Season 2. It is an alternative theatrical presentation of the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death material, not an additional story chapter.

If you choose the movie instead, treat it as a replacement for those five episodes rather than something to watch in addition to them.
Shibuya Incident Special Edit × Culling Game Advance Screening
This 2025 theatrical event combined a special edit of the Shibuya Incident with an advance screening of Season 3 episodes 1–2 before their television broadcast. It is optional for viewers following the normal anime releases.
Watching Season 2 episodes 6–23 and then Season 3 normally covers the same narrative progression. The event is mainly relevant if you want a theatrical recap and early presentation of the first two Season 3 episodes.
Rank #4
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 theatrical re-release
The 2025 theatrical re-release of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is not a new installment and does not alter the watch order. Count it as the same prequel film.
How to avoid duplicate viewing
- Watching Season 2 episodes 1–5 means you do not need Hidden Inventory/Premature Death – The Movie.
- Watching Season 2 episodes 6–23 means the Shibuya compilation is optional.
- Watching Season 3 episodes 1–2 means you do not need the advance-screening version of those episodes.
- The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 re-release is the same film, not a separate sequel.
Compilation films may offer a different edit, sound mix, or theatrical experience, but they should not be added to the television sequence as though they were new arcs.
Where to watch
Streaming rights, subtitles, dubs, and release timing vary by country and can change. Check the services available in your region rather than relying on a worldwide catalog claim. For a legal route, you can watch Jujutsu Kaisen on Crunchyroll if the relevant seasons or film are currently listed in your country; verify the catalog before subscribing because availability is territory- and date-sensitive.
Viewers who prefer offline or permanent access can also check region-specific licensed editions such as Jujutsu Kaisen physical media. Edition names, subtitle and dub options, format, stock, and compatibility differ by market, so confirm those details for your country before buying.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Episode-numbering note
Some guides number episodes continuously across the franchise, while streaming services usually display the season-specific episode number. Under the continuous numbering used in official anime materials:
- Season 1 covers episodes 1–24.
- Season 2 covers episodes 25–47.
- Season 3 covers episodes 48–59.
That is why Season 3 episode 1 may also be described as overall episode 48. The one-hour Season 3 premiere combined the season’s first two episodes, but the season still concludes at overall episode 59.
Recommended answer for most viewers
Start with Season 1 and watch all 24 episodes. Follow it with Jujutsu Kaisen 0, then watch all 23 episodes of Season 2. Continue with Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1, and watch Season 4: The Culling Game Part 2 once it receives an official release.
Use chronological order only if you are rewatching or deliberately want to begin with Gojo and Geto’s earlier history: Season 2 episodes 1–5 → Jujutsu Kaisen 0 → Season 1 → Season 2 episodes 6–23 → Season 3 → Season 4.
