Yes. Kokichi Muta, better known as Mechamaru, dies after fighting Mahito. This answer contains major Jujutsu Kaisen spoilers, including events from the Kyoto student’s confrontation with Mahito.
Who are Kokichi Muta and Mechamaru?
Kokichi Muta is a student associated with Kyoto Jujutsu High. Mechamaru is the name commonly used for him and the puppet persona he commands. The distinction matters: Mechamaru is not a separate character from Kokichi.
How does Kokichi Muta die?
Muta had made an arrangement with cursed spirits in the hope of obtaining a functional body. When that arrangement breaks down, he fights Mahito, commanding the Ultimate Mechamaru unit he had prepared. Muta dies following that confrontation.
Crunchyroll’s September 8, 2023 recap of the Shibuya Incident Arc episode describes the clash and its setup. The Prime Video season synopsis also identifies the arrangement’s breaking point and Muta’s forced fight against Mahito.
