The movie most people mean by “the Jujutsu Kaisen movie” is JUJUTSU KAISEN: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie. It premiered in Japan on May 30, 2025, opened in U.S. theaters on July 16, 2025, and is a theatrical compilation of the five-episode Season 2 flashback arc about Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto as students.
It is not a brand-new sequel or an original storyline. The franchise also includes Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and a separate 2025 theatrical event combining a Shibuya Incident recap with an advance screening of the opening episodes of Season 3. This guide explains how the films differ, what the Hidden Inventory movie is about, who voices its principal characters, and how it fits into the recommended viewing order.
Which Jujutsu Kaisen movie is this?
There are three theatrical projects that can reasonably be described as a Jujutsu Kaisen movie or movie event:
- Jujutsu Kaisen 0: the original 2021 feature film centered on Yuta Okkotsu and Rika.
- JUJUTSU KAISEN: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie: the 2025 theatrical compilation of the five-episode Season 2 flashback arc.
- JUJUTSU KAISEN: The Movie – Shibuya Incident Special Edition × Culling Game Advance Screening: the later 2025 recap-and-preview event connected to Season 3.
For a release-date, plot, and cast explainer, the second title is the most likely subject. The rest of this article focuses on Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie, then explains the other two projects below.
Hidden Inventory / Premature Death movie release date
| Market or format | Date or status |
|---|---|
| Japan theatrical release | May 30, 2025 |
| United States theatrical release | July 16, 2025, distributed by GKIDS |
| Selected international theatrical markets | Summer 2025, with dates varying by country, including releases in parts of France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Latin America, and Australia |
| Streaming listing | Crunchyroll records a June 5, 2026 release listing. Availability, audio, and subtitles can vary by territory. |
| Approximate runtime and U.S. classification | About 110 minutes and listed as PG-13 in a U.S. availability listing. Local ratings may differ. |
The movie is no longer an upcoming theatrical release: its Japanese premiere was on May 30, 2025, and its U.S. theatrical opening began on July 16, 2025. Readers should check their local theater archives and current streaming catalog before assuming that a theatrical or digital option remains available in their country.

What is the movie about?
Hidden Inventory / Premature Death is set in 2006, years before the main events of Jujutsu Kaisen. Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto are students at Tokyo Jujutsu High and, at this point in their lives, close friends and exceptionally confident young sorcerers.
Master Tengen assigns the pair to protect Riko Amanai, a teenage girl designated as the Star Plasma Vessel. Their mission is to escort Riko safely to Tengen so that the merger can take place. Riko is accompanied by her caretaker, Misato Kuroi, while enemies gather around the assignment.
A religious group opposed to the merger places Riko in danger, and the mission eventually draws the attention of Toji Fushiguro, a non-sorcerer assassin known as the Sorcerer Killer. What begins as a protection detail becomes a turning point for Gojo, Geto, Riko, and the wider jujutsu world.

The following section discusses major plot developments and the events that separate Gojo and Geto.
The arc is fundamentally a character-origin tragedy. Its important question is not simply whether Gojo and Geto can complete their assignment, but what the mission teaches them about the structure of jujutsu society, the burden placed on young sorcerers, and the relationship between sorcerers and ordinary people.
The consequences of the mission permanently alter Gojo’s abilities and outlook. They also push Geto toward a radically different understanding of who deserves protection and why sorcerers should continue sacrificing themselves. The two friends who begin the story working as a nearly inseparable team eventually become ideological opponents.

That history supplies essential context for Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and the first television season. It explains why Gojo and Geto’s relationship carries so much emotional weight in the present-day story, rather than treating their conflict as a rivalry that appeared without warning.

No. Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie is a theatrical compilation film, not a wholly new manga adaptation or a direct sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
It repackages the five episodes that make up the Hidden Inventory / Premature Death storyline in Season 2 of the television anime. The theatrical version presents the arc as one feature-length experience, with a runtime of approximately 110 minutes. Viewers who want the original episodic presentation can watch the corresponding Season 2 episodes instead.
The film is therefore best understood as an alternate theatrical presentation of an existing anime story. It remains useful for fans who want to revisit Gojo and Geto’s past in a single sitting, but it does not replace the rest of Season 2.
Principal cast and characters
| Character | Japanese voice actor | Role in the story |
|---|---|---|
| Satoru Gojo | Yuichi Nakamura | A student sorcerer whose extraordinary potential is still developing. |
| Suguru Geto | Takahiro Sakurai | Gojo’s close friend and mission partner, whose worldview changes dramatically. |
| Riko Amanai | Anna Nagase | The Star Plasma Vessel whom Gojo and Geto must protect. |
| Toji Fushiguro | Takehito Koyasu | The non-sorcerer assassin known as the Sorcerer Killer. |
| Shoko Ieiri | Aya Endo | A member of Gojo and Geto’s school-era circle. |
| Misato Kuroi | Risa Shimizu | Riko’s caretaker and companion. |
These are the principal Japanese credits identified in official promotional material and current film listings. English-language dub casts can vary by distributor and territory, so they should be checked against the local listing rather than assumed from the Japanese cast.
Production details
- Animation production: MAPPA
- Production and franchise distributor: TOHO animation
- Director: Shota Goshozono
- Series composition and screenplay: Hiroshi Seko
- Music: Yoshimasa Terui
Because this is a compilation, the production team’s task was to reshape a five-episode television arc into a continuous theatrical presentation. It is not a separate adaptation of a new manga chapter.

How to watch Jujutsu Kaisen in the right order
There are two useful ways to think about the order: the order in which the anime franchise was released and the chronological order of the story.
Recommended spoiler-conscious viewing order
- Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1
- Jujutsu Kaisen 0
- Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2’s Hidden Inventory / Premature Death episodes — or the compilation movie as an alternative presentation
- Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2’s Shibuya Incident
- Jujutsu Kaisen: The Movie – Shibuya Incident Special Edition × Culling Game Advance Screening, if you want the theatrical recap and advance preview
- Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1
This order preserves the way the franchise introduces its characters and major revelations. It also lets Jujutsu Kaisen 0 establish Yuta’s story before the Season 2 flashback adds more context to Gojo and Geto.
Chronological order
If you prefer story chronology, Hidden Inventory / Premature Death comes first because it takes place in 2006. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 follows later in the timeline, and the main television story occurs after that. Chronological viewing can be interesting, but it reveals background information earlier than the original release order does.

How it connects to Jujutsu Kaisen 0
The Hidden Inventory story predates Jujutsu Kaisen 0, but the two are closely connected through Gojo and Geto. The 2025 compilation shows the formative events that explain their history, while Jujutsu Kaisen 0 shows the consequences of that history in a later period involving Yuta Okkotsu.
For that reason, watching the movie is not a substitute for Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The films cover different periods and have different protagonists, even though Gojo and Geto provide an important link between them.
The other 2025 Jujutsu Kaisen movie event
Shibuya Incident Special Edition × Culling Game Advance Screening
This is a separate theatrical project from Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie. It was released in Japan on November 7, 2025.

Where can you watch the Hidden Inventory movie?
The film’s U.S. theatrical release has already taken place, beginning July 16, 2025. Crunchyroll’s current listing records a June 5, 2026 streaming release, but streaming catalogs are territory-specific. The available Japanese and English audio tracks and subtitle options may also differ by country.
The safest approach is to search the official Crunchyroll listing from your own region and confirm that the title is available there. A local digital storefront, library catalog, or licensed home-video retailer may also carry the film or the Season 2 material, depending on territory.
Should you buy the movie on disc?
For viewers who want offline access or a physical collection, a Jujutsu Kaisen Hidden Inventory / Premature Death Blu-ray or DVD is the most directly relevant product to look for. Check the edition, release territory, region coding, included audio and subtitles, and current stock before buying; prices and availability change, and a disc sold in one region may not play in another.
What manga material should fans read?
Readers who want the source material can look for the English-language Jujutsu Kaisen manga and Jujutsu Kaisen 0. VIZ lists physical manga editions through Amazon, including Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 8. However, volume mapping and edition contents should be checked before assuming that one particular volume contains the complete film adaptation.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is the most relevant companion purchase if you want to follow the connected story of Yuta and understand the larger relationship between the prequel film, Gojo, and Geto.
Is Hidden Inventory / Premature Death worth watching if I have seen Season 2?
If you have already watched the first five episodes of Season 2, the movie does not provide a new storyline. Its value is mainly in the feature-length presentation and the chance to revisit one of the series’ most important character arcs in a theatrical format.
