The North American theatrical release for JUJUTSU KAISEN: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie began on July 16, 2025. The film opened in Japan on May 30, 2025, and is a theatrical compilation of the five-episode Hidden Inventory / Premature Death storyline from Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2—not a new sequel or an original continuation.
Because the current date is August 2026, the film is no longer an upcoming 2025 release. Viewers looking for it now should check legitimate streaming catalogs and local listings, since availability, audio tracks, subtitles, and licensing vary by country.

It condenses the five Season 2 episodes covering the teenage years of Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto. The movie revisits the period when the two sorcerers were classmates and partners at Tokyo Jujutsu High, long before the main events of the series.
That distinction is important: this is a compilation film, not a wholly new story set after Season 2 and not a sequel that continues the manga’s later events. Viewers who have already watched the corresponding Season 2 episodes will recognize the central plot, although the film presents it as one cinema-length experience with newly remixed sound designed for theatrical playback. GKIDS described it as a theatrical compilation centered on Gojo and Geto’s younger days.
What happens in the movie?
Spoiler-light overview: Gojo and Geto are assigned to protect Riko Amanai, the Star Plasma Vessel whose fate is connected to Master Tengen. Their escort mission becomes increasingly dangerous when Toji Fushiguro—the “Sorcerer Killer”—enters the conflict.
The assignment tests the two students’ abilities, beliefs, and relationship. It also shows the event that begins driving Gojo and Geto in different directions, establishing the emotional and ideological foundation for their later opposing roles in Jujutsu Kaisen.
The film therefore works as both an origin story for the series’ most important relationship and a direct explanation of why the adult Gojo and Geto are no longer standing on the same side. It focuses on their past rather than on the Shibuya Incident or the Culling Game.
How long is Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie?
The 2D theatrical version has an approximately 110-minute runtime. A British Board of Film Classification listing records approximately 110 minutes and 34 seconds, but runtimes can differ slightly by territory and by whether a listing counts certain presentation elements. For practical purposes, viewers should expect a film of about one hour and 50 minutes.

Where can you watch it now?
The Japanese Jujutsu Kaisen website announced subscription streaming for the compilation beginning May 30, 2026, across services including Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, U-NEXT, and others. The announcement cautioned that the actual start date could differ between services.
Crunchyroll’s watch listing records the movie as released there on June 5, 2026. The listing consulted included Japanese, English, German, Latin American Spanish, and other audio or subtitle options. However, streaming rights and language choices are territory-dependent. A viewer in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, or another market should search the film’s title inside the local Crunchyroll catalog rather than assume that every option shown elsewhere is available locally.

- Search for the full title, JUJUTSU KAISEN: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie, on the streaming service available in your country.
- Check whether the listing is for the movie rather than the five television episodes.
- Verify the available audio and subtitle languages before starting playback.
- If the title is missing, check another licensed service or the distributor’s local availability information; catalogs can change without the film being removed everywhere.
Do not rely on unauthorized recordings or uploads. The official Japanese site warned that recording the film in theaters and uploading it violates Japanese film-piracy and copyright law.
Do not confuse it with Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution
Searches for “the new Jujutsu Kaisen movie” can produce two different 2025 compilation films:
- Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie: Gojo and Geto’s high-school years, Riko Amanai, Master Tengen, and Toji Fushiguro.
- Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution: a later compilation covering the Shibuya Incident and the beginning of the Culling Game.
If you want the Gojo-and-Geto backstory, look specifically for Hidden Inventory / Premature Death. If you are searching for the Shibuya-related compilation, that is Execution, not this film.
Is there a Blu-ray or DVD?
A directly relevant North American home-video option is the Season 2 Hidden Inventory / Premature Death Blu-ray and DVD set, released by Crunchyroll on February 4, 2025. It contains television episodes 25–29 and includes English subtitles.

This is the home-video presentation of the Season 2 episodes, not a confirmed physical edition of the theatrical compilation. It is therefore an appropriate choice for viewers who want to own the underlying arc, but it should not be described as the movie’s Blu-ray or DVD release unless a separate movie-specific edition is confirmed.
The home-video listing gives the compilation of the television episodes a 125-minute main-feature runtime. That is longer than the approximately 110-minute theatrical version, which is another reason not to treat the two products as identical editions.
Readers comparing physical editions can look for the Hidden Inventory / Premature Death Blu-ray and DVD set, while checking the product description carefully to confirm that it contains episodes 25–29 and to verify the seller, region compatibility, subtitles, and current availability.
Official Gojo and Geto merchandise
The arc also has licensed collectibles for fans who want something connected to the movie’s central characters. Crunchyroll’s store has listed a MegaHouse Petitrama DX Gojo and Geto figure branded for the Hidden Inventory / Premature Death version, along with other Gojo and Geto figures associated with the arc.
Availability, prices, and shipping regions are volatile. Before buying, verify that the item is licensed, check whether the seller is an authorized retailer, and review the estimated dispatch date and return policy. Official Japanese movie merchandise was also associated with theater goods and the TOHO animation store, although stock and geographic availability may differ substantially from one market to another.
For collectors, useful searches include “Gojo and Geto Hidden Inventory figure” and “official Jujutsu Kaisen movie merchandise.” These searches are more precise than looking for generic Jujutsu Kaisen figures and reduce the chance of buying a product tied to a different season or an unofficial listing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you watch the Season 2 episodes first?
No. The movie is designed to present the arc as a self-contained theatrical story, so a newcomer can follow its basic premise. It is nevertheless part of the larger Jujutsu Kaisen narrative, and familiarity with the series makes the significance of Gojo, Geto, Riko, Tengen, and Toji easier to appreciate.
If you prefer the episodic version, watch the five Hidden Inventory / Premature Death episodes from Season 2. If you want a consolidated cinema presentation with remixed sound, choose the compilation movie. The two versions tell substantially the same core story, but they are not the same runtime or physical product.
