Choso’s cursed technique is Blood Manipulation: he compresses blood to prepare attacks, fires it in a focused line with Piercing Blood, or scatters it in a broad burst with Supernova. He can also manipulate his blood flow to strengthen his physical performance. Those abilities make more sense alongside his story: Choso begins as an enemy of Yuji, then comes to regard him as a younger brother and protects him.
Spoilers: This explainer discusses Choso’s change of heart during his fight with Yuji and his actions after the Shibuya Incident.
Who is Choso?
Choso is the incarnation of the first Cursed Womb: Death Painting, a special-grade cursed object, according to the official Jujutsu Kaisen anime character page. He initially targets Yuji because Yuji killed Choso’s younger brothers, Eso and Kechizu.
That fight changes Choso’s understanding of Yuji. He comes to feel that Yuji is also his younger brother; after the Shibuya Incident, he acts alongside and protects him. His loyalty to family is not separate from his combat style: Blood Manipulation is a versatile toolkit, but it is the people he considers family who give his choices their direction.

What is Choso’s cursed technique?
Choso’s central cursed technique is Blood Manipulation, or Sekketsu Sōjutsu. ORICON’s character guide to Choso, published December 26, 2024 and last modified January 8, 2026, lists the technique and its named applications. The guide says its character-profile information draws on the official fanbook and manga volume bonus pages; its fine-grained move descriptions are guide-level explanations rather than direct quotations from the manga.
The core idea is control over blood as both a prepared projectile and a way to affect Choso’s own physical performance. The main attacks differ most clearly in what happens to compressed blood: it can be concentrated into a straight shot or dispersed across a wider area.

Convergence prepares the attack
Convergence compresses blood into small orbs. Rather than serving as the same kind of direct shot as Piercing Blood, it is the setup that lets Choso prepare compressed blood for subsequent techniques, as ORICON’s guide describes.
Piercing Blood concentrates force along a line
Piercing Blood turns compressed blood into a high-speed stream aimed in a straight line. Think of it as Choso’s focused ranged option: its narrow path differs from an attack intended to cover multiple directions. The guide notes a brief preparation requirement, so it is not simply interchangeable with an immediate, unprepared strike.

Supernova spreads the attack
Supernova releases compressed blood in a shotgun-like burst in multiple directions. Its wider coverage is the key contrast with Piercing Blood’s straight, concentrated trajectory; the distinction is about function and shape, not a formal ranking of which technique is stronger.
Flowing Red Scale: Stack enhances Choso himself
Instead of launching a projectile, Flowing Red Scale: Stack manipulates Choso’s blood flow. ORICON’s guide says this improves physical qualities such as vision, strength, and endurance, giving him a way to enhance his own performance within the broader Blood Manipulation toolkit.

What other techniques does Choso use?
ORICON’s profile also names Slicing Exorcism, Blood Edge, Blood Meteorite, and Wing King. It describes Blood Meteorite as hardened, bullet-like blood projectiles and Wing King as blood-made wings with homing projectiles. The profile lists these alongside Choso’s other applications; that does not establish that every named technique has equal prominence in the story.
What are the limits of Blood Manipulation?
ORICON’s guide reports two practical vulnerabilities: water can dilute blood used in Choso’s techniques, and hardened or coagulated blood may strain the user. These are secondary-source descriptions, not precise combat thresholds. They suggest a tradeoff: prepared, powerful attacks offer different options, but the conditions affecting blood can matter. The guide does not establish a quantified limit or a universal outcome for either vulnerability.

Why does Choso protect Yuji?
Choso’s initial motive is revenge for Eso and Kechizu. During his fight with Yuji, however, he senses that Yuji is also his brother, and his response shifts from attacking him to traveling with and protecting him. The official anime character page summarizes that relationship turn and Choso’s association with Yuji after Shibuya; ORICON’s guide likewise frames his fierce loyalty to his brothers as central to his decisions.
That shift reframes his fights without changing what Blood Manipulation does. Choso’s techniques provide setup, focused and area attacks, and physical enhancement; his family bonds explain why he chooses to use those abilities in Yuji’s defense.
