The campaign’s original description raised concern about possible cancer in both lungs, but later reporting said the pre-surgery diagnosis was incorrect and that Walker’s lungs were cancer-free. The fundraiser page remains accessible; its displayed total is a changing figure.
What happened to Joshua Ray Walker’s cancer diagnosis?
In January 2024, Walker was diagnosed with stage 3B colon cancer, according to the account he later posted on his GoFundMe. The campaign description said he had surgery and six months of chemotherapy. In September 2024, it reported that follow-up scans had shown findings in both lungs, that a biopsy was pending, and that the cancer would likely be restaged to stage 4. Those were concerns reported at the time, not a confirmed later diagnosis.
Contemporaneous coverage by the Dallas Observer on September 10, 2024 likewise said Walker had completed chemotherapy and expected a biopsy and oncology consultation after findings appeared on scans. The Observer reported that the fundraiser was intended to help with critical medical care.
That account was later corrected. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported in April 2026 that Walker said the pre-surgery diagnosis had been incorrect and his lungs were cancer-free. A May 2026 PEOPLE interview carried by AOL described his cancer experience in terms of eventual healing. The dated reports clarify the earlier lung concern; they do not establish a current treatment plan.

Why did Joshua Ray Walker launch a GoFundMe?
Walker organized the campaign, titled “Support Joshua Ray Walker’s fight against colon cancer,” and listed it in GoFundMe’s Medical category with a September 9, 2024 start date. Its stated purpose was to help with living costs and out-of-pocket health expenses while he continued treatment. The organizer’s description said some medical needs fell outside insurance coverage and mentioned efforts to find financial aid, grants, and charities.
“This gofundme will go towards my cost of living and out-of-pocket health expenses while I continue to fight cancer.”

That is wording from Walker’s campaign description, not an independent account of his medical status. In the same dated description, he wrote that he wanted to keep working and remain financially independent while facing uncertainty about treatment.
