Joondalup Festival ran from 15 March to 5 April 2025, presenting more than 50 free and ticketed happenings across more than 11 venues, according to the City of Joondalup. The program ranged from harbour performances and street installations to library activities. The 2025 edition has ended; its dates and schedule are historical, not current event information.
What the 2025 festival included
The City announced the program on 15 January 2025 as three back-to-back weeks of art, music and performance spread across the region. Rather than centring on one festival site, events were planned for varied locations, from Hillarys Boat Harbour to Perth’s last surviving drive-in cinema. The City described the program as more than 50 free and ticketed happenings at over 11 venues.
The festival program framed its character as an invitation to “embrace the unusual.” In the official program, Joondalup Mayor Hon. Albert Jacob pointed to a long-table dinner featuring seasonal bush-tucker flavours, an eisteddfod open to people with no experience, and a curious cube in a city street. Those examples capture the mix of performance, food, public art and community participation in the published program.
Examples from the program
Water Dragons at Hillarys Boat Harbour
The City’s February 2025 coverage described Water Dragons as a free show featuring three giant dragons gliding through Hillarys Boat Harbour, created by Melbourne-based A Blanck Canvas. The published schedule listed performances Wednesday to Sunday at 6:30 pm and 8 pm from 15 March to 5 April. The production was described as combining jet-ski-propelled puppeteers with light and sound. These were the announced details and schedule; they do not establish that every listed performance went ahead as planned.

What “bigger and better” meant—and what the numbers show
The City’s published scale claims establish a broad, multi-venue program: more than 50 happenings and over 11 venues. They describe the announced program, not a count of performances that ultimately took place or a measured audience total. The examples show how its scope crossed formats and settings, from a harbour production and a street-based gathering place to a library activity.
In a 24 January 2025 business-promotion announcement, the City said more than 250,000 people from around Perth and beyond visit the Joondalup region during the Joondalup Festival period. That is a claim about regional visitors during the period, not an independently verified count of 2025 festival attendees. The City did not publish an independently verifiable 2025 attendance total in the cited material.
