Rolling Stone reported in March 2025 that it obtained an audio recording of a conversation in which Jonathan Majors tells Grace Jabbari, “I aggressed you.” The conversation concerns an alleged September 2022 incident in London—not the separate March 2023 Manhattan altercation for which a jury later convicted Majors of misdemeanor assault and harassment. The recording is a reported account of a conversation, not a court finding about the 2022 allegation.
What the reported recording contains
Rolling Stone said the recording captures Jabbari describing being strangled and pushed against a car. In the conversation, Majors says, “I aggressed you,” and agrees after Jabbari says, “Something inside of you.” Rolling Stone also reported that Majors denied being physically abusive to Jabbari. The outlet’s report does not make the conversation a judicial finding, and the audio is attributed here to Rolling Stone’s reporting rather than independent authentication. Rolling Stone’s report.
The Associated Press said the acknowledgment appeared to confirm Jabbari’s description and contradict Majors’s earlier public statements. Asked about the recording in an AP interview, Majors declined to address it, saying, “I can’t answer that.” Those are AP’s characterization and account of his response. Associated Press report.
Which incident did the audio discuss?
The conversation reported by Rolling Stone followed an alleged September 2022 incident in London. Jabbari’s March 19, 2024 federal complaint described alleged physical conduct and its aftermath. A civil complaint sets out a party’s allegations; it is not a criminal verdict. Rolling Stone reported that evidence concerning the September 2022 incident was limited at Majors’s criminal trial, although related text messages about the aftermath were introduced. The separate March 2023 criminal case
The criminal case was about a different altercation in a for-hire vehicle in Manhattan in March 2023. On December 18, 2023, a jury found Majors guilty of one count of misdemeanor assault in the third degree and one count of harassment in the second degree. It acquitted him of two other assault and aggravated-harassment counts. The verdict therefore did not decide whether the alleged September 2022 incident described in the recording occurred. ABC News’ verdict report.
ABC News reported that the jury’s split verdict indicated reckless rather than intentional assault. That describes the jury’s result in the March 2023 case; it should not be applied to the earlier allegation. After the verdict, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg characterized the prosecution’s case as a “pattern of abuse and coercion” culminating in the assault and harassment. That was Bragg’s statement, not a quotation from the judge. Los Angeles Times coverage of the verdict.
