A definitive official cause of death was not established in the contemporaneous reports cited here.
What happened to Jon Wysocki?
Lydia’s Castle, the band Wysocki was playing with at the time, announced his death and gave the date as May 18, 2024. In a statement quoted by Yahoo Entertainment on May 20, 2024, the band said he died at 8:02 p.m., surrounded by family and friends.
Some early reports gave a different age. Later contemporaneous coverage corrected it to 56, including the Los Angeles Times report and Yahoo’s account of Wysocki’s bandmates correcting the age reports.
What is known about the cause of death?
The Los Angeles Times attributed information about Wysocki’s health to Lydia’s Castle guitarist Cody Denton, who said Wysocki had suffered complications involving his liver and other organs. That account was relayed by Denton; the contemporaneous reporting cited here does not establish an official cause of death.

Wysocki’s years with Staind
Staind’s tribute said its members first met Wysocki through mutual friends in 1994 and formed the band with him in 1995. The group remembered 17 years together, from practice in Ludlow, Massachusetts, to international touring. In its tribute, reproduced by NME on May 19, 2024, Staind called him “integral to who we were as a band.”
One landmark from that period is Break the Cycle. The Los Angeles Times reported that Staind’s third album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2001. The album offers a direct way to revisit the band Wysocki helped build, without implying that the available reporting establishes his individual performance credits on each track.
