Jon Stewart cut his hand after smashing a ceramic mug during a February 24, 2025, The Daily Show monologue. He continued the segment, later showed a small healing wound, and joked that the show had restricted the mugs he could use on set.
How did Jon Stewart cut his hand?
During the February 24 monologue, Stewart was discussing government spending, DOGE and pharmaceutical companies when he smashed a ceramic mug for emphasis. He cut his hand in the process. The Los Angeles Times reported on the incident and its context; Vanity Fair also covered it in connection with the monologue.

Stewart also clarified that the mug was not a breakaway prop. LateNighter quoted him recalling, “When I picked it back up to look at it,” but the published excerpt available here does not include the rest of the sentence, so it does not support a fuller quotation. (LateNighter, February 28, 2025.) That clarification does not suggest the injury was intended.
Is the extent of the injury or treatment known?
The cited reports establish that Stewart cut his hand and later showed a small healing wound. They do not establish the cut’s depth, a diagnosis, or what medical treatment he received. Claims that he needed stitches or underwent another specific treatment are not supported by this reporting.
