No: John McAfee did not literally return. The “back from the grave” reference is to an AI persona promoted in January 2025 in connection with AIntivirus, a meme-coin project associated with his name and antivirus legacy. The Block reported that McAfee’s widow, Janice McAfee, maintained the account bearing his name and announced that she had taken creative control of the project.
What was announced—and who was behind the AI account?
In a January 23, 2025 report, The Block described AIntivirus as an AI-themed token drawing on John McAfee’s name and antivirus legacy. Janice McAfee said she had taken creative control of a product intended to expand his legacy, invoking his interests in freedom, privacy, technology, crypto and AI.
The same report quoted a post from John McAfee’s account: “I’m back with AIntivirus. An AI version of myself. You didn’t think I would miss this cycle did you?” The Block said Janice maintained the account. The post should therefore be understood as an AI persona’s promotion, not as a statement authored by the deceased John McAfee.
What did the January 2025 report say about the token?
The figures below describe launch-era reporting, not AIntivirus’s present market conditions. The available reporting does not establish the token’s price, liquidity, holder distribution, listings or activity as of October 2026.

| Reporting detail | What The Block reported |
|---|---|
| Mint and stated supply | Minted January 6, 2025, with a total supply of 100 million tokens. |
| Wallet transfers before announcement | Tokens had been moved among 277 wallets before the project announcement. |
| Tokens in two main pools | 2.6 million tokens were reported in the Raydium and Meteora pools; The Block valued them at about $1 million at the time. |
| Tokenomics and lockups | The Block said tokenomics information had not been provided and it was unclear whether the remaining tokens were locked. |
These observations raised questions about concentration, available pool liquidity and transparency at launch. They do not, on their own, establish how the token is structured or traded now, or whether it is a sound investment.
Why does John McAfee’s past matter to this story?
John McAfee was deceased by the time of the AIntivirus promotion. In a July 15, 2022 release, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission recorded notice of his death and said the Commission’s claims against him were dismissed. That legal outcome is distinct from the allegations in earlier crypto-promotion cases.

In March 2021, the U.S. Department of Justice announced charges concerning alleged undisclosed compensation for promoting initial coin offerings. The DOJ said the alleged compensation exceeded $11 million and emphasized that the defendants were presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Its release quoted then-U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss describing the conduct as alleged lies and deception. These were allegations in the charging document, not findings about AIntivirus.
Separately, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission announced a complaint alleging that McAfee and an associate engaged in digital-asset pump-and-dump conduct and profited more than $2 million. That allegation concerns a separate historical matter; it is not evidence about the AIntivirus token.

What can readers conclude—and what remains unknown?
The best-supported conclusion is narrow: AIntivirus was promoted in January 2025 using an AI persona associated with John McAfee’s name, and Janice McAfee said she had creative control of the project. The launch-era supply and pool figures reported at the time are not a substitute for current market data.
- Established by the cited report: AIntivirus’s name, the AI-persona promotion and the launch-era figures reported above.
- Not established here: October 2026 price or liquidity, current holders, current listings, whether the project remains active, or whether remaining tokens were locked.
- Important distinction: allegations from earlier cases are historical context, not proof of misconduct by the AIntivirus project.
How can you approach an AI-branded crypto promotion cautiously?
An AI persona, famous name or legacy claim does not verify who controls a token, how its supply is allocated or whether its market is liquid. Before acting on a promotion, look for current, independently verifiable information about the contract, holders, pool liquidity, token distribution and any lockups; treat missing or stale information as unresolved rather than assuming the most favorable answer.

McAfee, the cybersecurity company, announced consumer scam-protection features in January 2026, including tools addressing fake crypto deals and suspicious links. That is separate from John McAfee and does not validate AIntivirus or provide investment advice. A scam-detection tool may help flag suspicious material, but it cannot establish that a particular token is safe.
