John Leguizamo told fans who follow U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to unfollow him—and said they should not attend his shows or watch his movies. News reports said the actor delivered the message in an Instagram video on January 28, 2026, captioned “Abolish ice!”
What did Leguizamo say?
Fox News quoted Leguizamo’s Instagram video as saying: “If you follow ICE, don’t follow me, don’t come to my shows, and don’t watch my movies.” The Los Angeles Times reported the same appeal, phrased in part as “If you follow ICE, unfollow me,” and said the caption read “Abolish ice!” (Fox News; Los Angeles Times.)
The message was directed at people who follow or support ICE. It made his position personal as well as political: he asked those viewers to disengage from his work and performances.
When and where did he post it?
Contemporary reports place the message on Instagram on January 28, 2026. The Los Angeles Times and Fox News described it as a video or post; TMZ called it an Instagram Story. The wording and platform are reported by those outlets, rather than independently verified here. (TMZ.)

What was happening around the post?
The Los Angeles Times situated Leguizamo’s statement amid a federal immigration crackdown and referred to the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, as well as the death of Keith Porter Jr. in Northridge. TMZ also linked the post to tensions following Pretti’s shooting. These are the outlets’ descriptions of the surrounding context, not findings independently established here.
The Times and Fox News identify Leguizamo with films including Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge! Those credits help explain why his appeal addressed viewers of his movies as well as followers of his social media.
