Joe Burrow said he felt his privacy had been violated after his Anderson Township, Ohio, home was burglarized on December 9, 2024, while the Cincinnati Bengals were playing the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas. Two days later, he said he did not want more details about the incident made public.
What happened at Burrow’s home
According to an incident report supplied by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, a person employed by Burrow arrived at the home that evening and found a shattered bedroom window and the house in disarray. The person contacted family before authorities were notified. No one was injured, and deputies sought surveillance footage from neighbors. Investigators could not immediately determine what had been taken, according to the initial report. The Associated Press report carried by NFL.com described those details.
What Burrow said about privacy
On December 11, before taking questions at a midweek news conference, Burrow addressed the burglary. ABC News reported his opening statement: “I feel like my privacy has been violated in more ways than one, and way more is already out there than I would want out there and that I care to share.”
He also said, “We live a public life. One of my least favorite parts of that is the lack of privacy, and that has been difficult for me to deal with my entire career.” ABC News’ December 11 report quoted his remarks.

Burrow did not provide specific details about the burglary and declined to comment on how he felt about his safety going forward. His public response focused on the intrusion into his privacy, not on speculation about what happened inside the home.
What is known about the investigation
Later Associated Press reporting said the investigation spanned several states and led to at least six arrests. The AP also drew a distinction between those developments and the burglary itself: two Manhattan pawn shop owners pleaded guilty to conspiracy to receive stolen property, but neither pleaded guilty to participating in the Burrow burglary, and neither was accused of fencing property from his home. Prosecutors had described contacts between one owner and a crew believed to be behind the burglary, but the plea was not a Burrow-specific admission. The AP’s later account explains that limitation.

The wider athlete-security context
Contemporaneous reporting placed the burglary amid other reported break-ins involving professional athletes. The NFL and NBA issued security alerts to players after several homes were targeted while athletes were away for games. Officials described extensive surveillance tactics in some cases, including people attempting deliveries or posing as grounds-maintenance workers or joggers, according to the AP report carried by NFL.com.
Those descriptions concern broader cases; available reporting does not establish that any of those tactics were used in the burglary at Burrow’s home. The incident report and Burrow’s remarks establish the break-in and his privacy concerns, but do not establish a motive or identify what was taken.
