Jodie Turner-Smith’s first major public comments on her split from Joshua Jackson came in a February 2024 interview with The Times. She said she believed choosing what was healthiest for their family and children mattered most, and described the end of the marriage as a transition—not a failure. In June 2026, she spoke separately about how she and Jackson explain the change to their daughter.

What Turner-Smith said when she first addressed the split

In The Times interview published February 25, 2024, Turner-Smith said, “Sometimes things we really want to work just don’t end up working.” She added that the priority was choosing what was healthiest for the family and children. Us Weekly reported those remarks on February 26, 2024.

She also rejected the idea that the marriage should be called a failure. Turner-Smith described it as a beautiful period that had ended, with a new moment beginning for both of them. She framed recognizing that a relationship is not working and making a change as an example she wanted to set for her daughter: “The bravest thing in the world is to recognize when something’s not working and to make a move.”

Her comments explained her perspective on the decision; they did not give a specific cause for the divorce. The interview should not be read as evidence of a scandal or hostility between the former couple.

Timeline of the divorce and family details

  • October 2023: Us Weekly reported that Turner-Smith filed for divorce after four years of marriage. Its 2024 report noted that the filing and Jackson’s response listed different separation dates, so a single precise date should not be inferred from that reporting.
  • April 2020: Turner-Smith and Jackson’s daughter, Juno, was born.
  • February 25–26, 2024: The Times interview was published, followed by Us Weekly’s report on Turner-Smith’s comments.
  • May 2025: Us Weekly reported that the divorce was finalized. Its report on the divorce finalization is the source for this date.

What she said about explaining the divorce to her daughter

In a June 29, 2026 episode of Hoda Kotb’s Joy 101 podcast, Turner-Smith discussed the challenge of explaining the divorce to Juno. She said she and Jackson wanted their daughter to understand that she had “two homes filled with love,” while acknowledging that they were learning and did not always get everything right. Us Weekly reported the conversation on June 29, 2026.

Turner-Smith described trying to keep those conversations age appropriate and centered on the child while still being honest about what the change meant. She also said she had read her daughter books about divorce and found children’s books helpful; she did not identify or endorse any particular title.

What is known about custody

In a separate June 2026 report, Us Weekly said custody arrangements were still being resolved at that time. That is a dated snapshot, not confirmation of the current status as of October 8, 2026. The reporting cited here does not establish a later custody outcome. Us Weekly’s June 2026 custody report covers that limited update.
