Seven performers were named in reporting about WWE releases in April 2024: Jinder Mahal, Cameron Grimes, Xia Li, Xyon Quinn, Veer Mahaan, Sanga, and Von Wagner. The departures were reported in two separate waves: six names on April 19, followed by Cameron Grimes’s announcement on April 23. Some performers shared public reactions, while accounts of backstage sentiment came through anonymous, secondhand reporting.
Who was released from WWE in April 2024?
ProWrestling.net’s April 23 tracker listed seven names: Jinder Mahal, Cameron Grimes, Xia Li, Xyon Quinn, Veer Mahaan, Sanga, and Von Wagner. The first six departures other than Grimes were reported as part of an April 19 round; Grimes announced his release separately four days later. The list reflects reported departures, not an official WWE announcement of a complete roster of releases.
| Performer | Timing and reported context |
|---|---|
| Jinder Mahal | Included in the April 19 round. His public post used the phrase “I Quit,” but reporting described his departure as a release. |
| Xia Li | Included in the April 19 round. She posted a brief thank-you message. |
| Xyon Quinn | Included in the April 19 round. Fightful reported on April 19 that he had not publicly commented at that point. |
| Veer Mahaan | Included in the April 19 round as part of Indus Sher. |
| Sanga | Included in the April 19 round as part of Indus Sher. |
| Von Wagner | Included in the April 19 round. |
| Cameron Grimes (Trevor Lee) | Announced his release in a video on April 23. His last WWE match was against Bron Breakker on the April 12 episode of SmackDown, according to F4WOnline. |
Why were the April releases reported?
Fightful reported that WWE sources characterized the April 19 cuts internally as budget cuts. It also reported that higher-ups cited factors including limited television use or creative plans, as well as performers’ progression relative to their time with the company. These were accounts attributed to Fightful’s sources, not a formal public explanation from WWE. The reporting said talent were informed on Friday evening; some wrestlers at SmackDown learned of departures as the news became public, and no memo was circulated.
F4WOnline noted that Grimes’s announcement came shortly before the 2024 WWE Draft. That timing is context, not evidence that the draft itself caused his release.

What did Jinder Mahal and Cameron Grimes say?
Jinder Mahal
Mahal posted, “I Quit. Maharaja Out 💰.” The wording was playful, but it should not be read as proof that he resigned: Fightful and ProWrestling.net reported his departure as a release. In a video summarized by Cageside Seats on April 27, Mahal thanked supporters and locker-room colleagues, reflected on his two WWE runs, and named India, Europe, Japan, Canada, and Brooklyn among places where he hoped to make an impact.
Cameron Grimes
In the video announcing his release, Grimes identified himself as Trevor Lee, also known as Cameron Grimes, and said he had just finished a call with WWE. He described the release as unfortunate and added: “The WWE is all I’ve ever wanted to do and be. But if I have to go somewhere else now to show them that they missed out, I guess that’s what I gotta do.” His statement combined disappointment with a clear intention to continue wrestling elsewhere.

Xia Li and Xyon Quinn
ProWrestling.net reproduced Xia Li’s post: “Thank you @wwe Thank you @TripleH Thank you #WWEunivers”. Fightful’s April 19 report said Xyon Quinn had not publicly commented as of that report. The reporting does not establish that every performer named in the releases made a public statement.

WrestleTalk, attributing its account to PWInsider via WrestlePurists, reported that WWE talent expressed “great sympathy” for Mahal and Li and that both were well liked backstage. The outlet also relayed reporting that Mahal had been given little to do for years before his January 1 Raw promo with The Rock, and that some talent joked about a possible Mahal–Tony Khan feud. These are anonymous, outlet-attributed backstage accounts, not statements from named wrestlers or proof of a unified locker-room view.
