Keep The Party Going: A Tribute to Jimmy Buffett was not a Jimmy Buffett concert with a substitute frontman. The April 11, 2024 Hollywood Bowl event was a one-night memorial revue led by the Coral Reefer Band and an all-star cast. Its reconstructed set list moved from “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” and “Margaritaville” to “Let It Be,” with country, rock, pop, hip-hop, and video-tribute performances along the way.
Bottom line: Keep The Party Going: A Tribute to Jimmy Buffett worked best as a communal memorial revue, not as an attempt to recreate a normal Jimmy Buffett concert. Buffett did not perform at the Hollywood Bowl on April 11, 2024. His Coral Reefer Band and an unusually broad group of friends and musical peers carried the songs through country, rock, pop, hip-hop, singer-songwriter, and video-tribute segments.
The result could not reproduce Buffett’s own relaxed stage presence, but it did something more interesting: it showed how many musical lives his catalog could support. Kenny Chesney and Mac McAnally emphasized the country and songwriter roots; Zac Brown and Eric Church supplied contemporary country-rock force; Brandi Carlile, Jackson Browne, Jack Johnson, and the Eagles widened the songs into an American rock and songwriting tradition. By the time the full cast reached “Margaritaville,” the show had earned its sing-along finale rather than simply presenting it as an obligation.

That distinction matters. This was not a late Jimmy Buffett performance, a Coral Reefer Band concert led by Buffett, or a standard tour date. Buffett died in September 2023, and the Hollywood Bowl event was structured around other artists interpreting his work. The most accurate description is a memorial revue: a sequence of guest performances, band appearances, video tributes, and ensemble moments built around Buffett’s songs.
Review: a tribute that understood the catalog was bigger than “Margaritaville”
The concert’s strongest choice was its variety. A single replacement singer trying to imitate Buffett would have made the evening feel like a substitute performance. Instead, the production let different guests reveal different parts of the catalog.
Mac McAnally was especially important to the show’s continuity. As a longtime Coral Reefer and Buffett collaborator, he connected the guest-heavy production to the band’s history. The opening pairing of McAnally and Scotty Emerick on “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” immediately established the concert’s balance between a familiar party song and the musicians who knew Buffett’s repertoire from the inside.
Kenny Chesney’s appearance on “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes” and “Back Where I Come From,” including the duet with McAnally, gave the set a strong country center. Zac Brown brought both playful energy and a sturdy country-rock approach to “Pirates and Parrots” and “Knee Deep.” Eric Church’s “Son of a Son of a Sailor” added weight to one of Buffett’s defining identity songs without treating it as a novelty.

Angélique Kidjo’s “One Particular Harbour,” Brandi Carlile’s “Tin Cup Chalice,” Jackson Browne’s “He Went to Paris,” and Jack Johnson’s “A Pirate Looks at 40” placed the material in a wider singer-songwriter and roots context. Timothy B. Schmit’s “Volcano” and the Eagles’ late set made the Hollywood Bowl feel less like a themed beach party and more like a gathering of American rock musicians who had absorbed Buffett’s influence.

There were also deliberately surprising turns. Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice,” Jake Shimabukuro’s “We Will Rock You / While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” and Pitbull’s “Don’t Stop the Party” and “Thank God and Jimmy Buffett” pushed the tribute beyond a faithful genre recreation. These moments will not appeal equally to every Buffett fan, but they support the event’s central idea: Buffett’s music had become a shared cultural language, not a style that belonged to only one scene.
The emotional center was not necessarily the biggest hit
The familiar songs were essential. “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Fins,” “Volcano,” “A Pirate Looks at 40,” and “Margaritaville” gave the audience the communal release expected from a Buffett celebration. But the more reflective choices kept the evening from collapsing into a branded beach-party playlist.
“Bubbles Up,” performed by McAnally and Caroline Jones, carried particular memorial weight. “Tin Cup Chalice,” “He Went to Paris,” and “One Particular Harbour” also made room for the songwriter behind the party persona. The concert acknowledged that Buffett’s appeal was not limited to escapism: his songs could be wistful, philosophical, homesick, eccentric, and quietly tender.
The late sequence was carefully designed to build toward collective release. After Sheryl Crow’s “Fins,” Jack Johnson and Caroline Jones on “A Pirate Looks at 40,” and Zac Brown’s “Brown Eyed Girl” with Dave Grohl on drums, a Dave Matthews video segment presented “Lovely Cruise.” The Eagles then performed “The Boys of Summer,” “Take It to the Limit” with Vince Gill on vocals, and “In the City,” before joining Paul McCartney for “Let It Be.”
Finally, the performers gathered for “Margaritaville.” It is the song most inseparable from Buffett’s public image, so ending there was predictable. It was also correct. The finale turned the concert’s many interpretations back into one audience-sized memory: everyone could sing the song, even after the preceding two hours had shown how many ways the catalog could be understood.

How this concert differs from later Coral Reefer Band shows
The title can cause confusion because “Keep the Party Going” was later used for Coral Reefer Band touring shows. Those dates were not the Hollywood Bowl all-star tribute. They used a more conventional Coral Reefer Band format and a different repertoire, including songs such as “Bama Breeze,” “Come Monday,” “Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season,” and other Buffett staples.

If the concert’s sing-along core sends you back to Buffett’s catalog, Jimmy Buffett’s Songs You Know By Heart CD is the most direct physical companion. It is a greatest-hits collection, not a recording of the tribute concert, but it overlaps substantially with the Hollywood Bowl repertoire, including “Margaritaville,” “Fins,” “Pencil Thin Mustache,” “Grapefruit—Juicy Fruit,” and “Volcano,” among others.
For listeners who want to move beyond the best-known songs, Songs You Don’t Know By Heart is the more exploratory choice. The official catalog describes it as a collection of 15 acoustic recordings of fan-selected songs that were rarely or never played on tour. It is better suited to the listener who wants the reflective and less familiar side of Buffett that the tribute occasionally brought forward.
Is there an official concert film or soundtrack?
No official commercial video, soundtrack, DVD, Blu-ray, or licensed streaming replay of the Hollywood Bowl tribute was verified in the available research. A user-uploaded full-show video can help document the running order, but it should not be described as an official concert film or archival release.

Final verdict
Keep The Party Going succeeded because it treated Jimmy Buffett’s songs as a shared musical language rather than a museum piece. It could not reproduce Buffett’s own performance, and it did not try to. Instead, the rotating cast made the tribute intentionally communal: country singers emphasized the songs’ roots, rock guests expanded their scale, unexpected collaborators tested their flexibility, and the ensemble finale returned everything to the Parrothead sing-along tradition.
As a conventional concert, its many guest changes and stylistic detours could feel uneven. As a memorial, that variety was the point. The Hollywood Bowl show remembered Buffett not by freezing him in one familiar pose, but by demonstrating how widely his music could travel after he was gone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Did Jimmy Buffett perform at the Keep The Party Going tribute concert?
No. Jimmy Buffett did not perform at the April 11, 2024 Hollywood Bowl tribute. The Coral Reefer Band and guest artists performed his songs in his honor.
Is the Keep The Party Going set list official?
The available sequence is reconstructed from a full-show video description, fan-maintained artist set lists, and an actual-show playlist. Because no official printed production set list was located, introductions and video segments may be counted differently.
Where can I watch the Jimmy Buffett tribute concert?
No official commercial concert film, soundtrack, DVD, Blu-ray, or licensed streaming replay was verified. A user-uploaded full-show recording exists as archival evidence, but it is not an official concert release.
Is this the same Keep the Party Going show as the Coral Reefer Band tour?
No. The Hollywood Bowl event was a one-night all-star memorial concert. Later Coral Reefer Band shows used the same or similar wording but had a different, band-led set list.
The Bottom Line
Verdict: The Hollywood Bowl’s Keep The Party Going was a successful memorial revue rather than a substitute Jimmy Buffett concert. Its reconstructed 29-song set balanced iconic sing-alongs with deeper material and used a wide-ranging guest roster to show the breadth of Buffett’s musical legacy.
