Later that day, podcast co-host Conrad Thompson relayed a message from Ross’s daughter saying the procedure went well and Ross was in recovery. No diagnosis, discharge confirmation or AEW return date was reported. The update came after Ross’s last reported AEW broadcast appearance at Double or Nothing—not as a confirmed consequence of a particular pay-per-view.
What Jim Ross said about the surgery
Ross posted on October 7 that he was having “another brain surgery” that morning to address an issue with his shunt. Fightful reproduced his statement: “Getting another brain surgery Wednesday morning to address an issue with my shunt. Positive thoughts appreciated. Thanks.” Fightful’s October 7 report described the procedure as his second brain procedure.
Later that day, Thompson relayed a family update from Ross’s daughter: “I just heard GREAT NEWS from @JRsBBQ’s daughter: Procedure went well. He is in recovery right now. Will hopefully be heading home around 3.” That message reported recovery and a hope of heading home around 3; it did not confirm that Ross was discharged.
What Ross had said about his shunt and symptoms
In a podcast update following AEW Dynamite’s September 30 tribute to PAC, Ross described the shunt as problematic and reported severe headaches. As quoted in Wrestling Observer/F4WOnline’s October 1 report, he said: “This shunt is problematic. Having blistering headaches. They hurt so bad that I wake up in the middle of the night more often than not…” He also said, “My wound on my skull is healing nicely.”

The same report said Ross had doctor appointments concerning a spot on his kidney. It did not identify a kidney diagnosis, and the October 7 update did not provide further medical details about the shunt or the operation. The statements were reported by news outlets; they are not medical records.
Recent brain-surgery timeline
- August 12, 2026: Ross underwent a procedure to remove fluid from his brain, according to POST Wrestling’s August 18 report. That report said he was doing rehabilitation and physical therapy.
- September 30–October 1: After the Dynamite tribute to PAC, Ross discussed his headaches and shunt on Grilling JR; a report also noted doctor appointments concerning a kidney spot.
- October 7: Ross reported another brain procedure to address the shunt. Thompson later relayed his daughter’s report that the procedure went well and Ross was in recovery.
How the update relates to AEW
Fightful reported that Ross’s last AEW broadcast appearance was at Double or Nothing, where he called Jon Moxley versus Kyle O’Reilly. The report also said he could not appear at All In or All Out. It did not provide a date for his next appearance. The October 7 surgery update therefore should not be described as having followed a specific AEW pay-per-view; the available reporting establishes the surgery date and broadcast context, not that causal or immediate timeline.
