They kept the pregnancy and birth private until the news was reported publicly in March. Early coverage called their daughter Mia; an ABC interview published in July 2026 refers to her as Mia Rae.
When did Jessica Mauboy have her baby?
Mauboy and Magriplis’s daughter was born on January 13, 2025, according to PerthNow and The Australian Women’s Weekly. PerthNow reported the news on March 17, more than two months after the birth.
The couple had kept the pregnancy and birth out of public view. PerthNow reported that Mauboy had confirmed her pregnancy onstage at a Melbourne concert while about five months pregnant, but chose not to make the birth a public announcement at the time.
What is Jessica Mauboy’s daughter’s name?
PerthNow’s March 2025 report called the baby Mia, as did the contemporaneous coverage from The Australian Women’s Weekly. In an ABC News interview published July 11, 2026, Mauboy referred to her daughter as Mia Rae. The later name reference adds Rae; the available reports do not say that her name changed.

Why did Mauboy keep the birth private?
Mauboy said she wanted to savour the experience of pregnancy and early motherhood without public scrutiny. The privacy was a choice to keep those moments personal, rather than evidence of a dispute or deception.
Looking back on motherhood in a Stellar interview quoted by PerthNow, Mauboy described it as “a bit of a rollercoaster but a magical one.”

How has Mauboy talked about motherhood and family?
In the later ABC interview, Mauboy connected her daughter with music and the life she was already leading before the birth: “When Mia Rae was in my belly, I was touring with her, I was going home with her, and I think she’s already picking up on things.”
