Jesse Palmer hosted the painful aftermath of Gerry Turner’s breakup with Leslie Fhima on The Golden Bachelor: he spoke with Leslie during After the Final Rose, and ABC7’s recap describes him consoling Gerry. The accounts document Palmer’s on-screen role, not a separate personal verdict from him about the breakup.
What happened between Gerry Turner and Leslie Fhima?
In the first-season finale, Gerry ended his relationship with Leslie and told her he had fallen in love with Theresa Nist. Leslie said she felt blindsided: she believed Gerry’s earlier words had made clear that she was his choice. ABC’s November 30, 2023 finale recap says Leslie was the first woman he told “I love you” during his journey.
Leslie recalled noticing a change in Gerry after he met her family, and she said he did not return her “I love you” on their final night together. When he came back to tell her he had chosen to pursue Theresa, Leslie asked, “Where did I go wrong?” She told him, “Your words meant so much to me, I didn’t take them for granted.”
What did Jesse Palmer do during the breakup and reunion?
He spoke with Leslie on After the Final Rose
At the reunion, Palmer spoke with Leslie as she described the future she had imagined with Gerry and why she had felt sure she was his choice. She told Gerry, “Your words gave me 100% certainty that I was your girl.” Gerry acknowledged that he had “got caught up in moments” when he said “I love you” and apologized for the pain he caused. Leslie said she understood the apology but did not know whether she accepted it.

He was there for Gerry after the breakup
After leaving Leslie, Gerry told Palmer, “I took a good person and broke her heart,” and said he hated himself. ABC7’s finale recap also describes Palmer consoling him. Those remarks about guilt and heartbreak were Gerry’s, not Palmer’s personal assessment of the relationship.
What Leslie said about the breakup afterward
In a December 5, 2023 Bachelor Nation interview about her appearance on Bachelor Happy Hour, Leslie said she sensed something was wrong when Gerry returned to her door. His emotional goodbye had seemed like a bad sign, she recalled, because only days earlier she had believed she was his choice.

When asked if she was ready to date again, Leslie said she had not been thinking about getting back out there and wanted to focus on work and family. She did not want to go through the same heartbreak immediately, though she wanted to remain open to a relationship. That was her view at the time of the interview, not a description of her current dating life. “In being vulnerable, I got my heart broken and I really don’t want to go through that again right now,” she said.
In a separate December 4, 2023 interview, Leslie said she did not feel she had received much closure from Gerry, while adding that she felt she had closed the experience with herself. She understood that he had to make a choice, she said, but wished he had chosen different words.

How the finale ended
After the breakup, Gerry proposed to Theresa, and she accepted. ABC’s finale recap reported that the couple planned to marry in a live televised ceremony on January 4, 2024. That proposal was the conclusion of Gerry’s relationship with Theresa, separate from Palmer’s conversations with Leslie and Gerry about the breakup.
