Countdown is a 2025 Prime Video action-crime series starring Jensen Ackles as LAPD detective Mark Meachum. It premiered on June 25, 2025, and Prime Video cancelled it after one season in October 2025. The finale was reported to end on a cliffhanger, so there is no second season coming to resolve the story.
What is Countdown about?
The story begins when a Department of Homeland Security officer is murdered in broad daylight. LAPD detective Mark Meachum is recruited to a secret task force made up of undercover agents from different law-enforcement branches. Their investigation uncovers a larger threat and becomes a race to protect a city. Apple TV’s series listing describes the premise and identifies Ackles as Meachum.
Who stars in the series?
Jensen Ackles leads as Mark Meachum. The season-one cast listed by Apple TV also includes Eric Dane as Nathan Blythe, Jessica Camacho as Amber Oliveras, Violett Beane, Elliot Knight and Uli Latukefu. Derek Haas created the series and served as showrunner and executive producer, according to Parade’s 2025 overview.
When did Countdown come out?
The first season premiered on Prime Video on June 25, 2025. It has 13 episodes. At launch, three episodes were released together, followed by weekly episodes through the finale on September 3, 2025, according to TV Insider’s release-schedule report. Those dates describe the completed first-season rollout, not a schedule for new episodes.

Does the finale resolve the story?
TV Insider’s cancellation-day coverage describes the finale as a cliffhanger and reports Ackles’s reaction to the cancellation: “It’s a bummer.” The series therefore ends without a second season to continue its story; the available reporting does not establish a later resolution in another format.
