Reports also noted that she did not appear to be wearing her wedding ring. Neither detail establishes why she wore the engagement ring on that hand or what it meant for the relationship.
What happened at the New York City outing
Lopez attended a preview showing of Cats: The Jellicle Ball at the Perelman Performing Arts Center on Thursday, August 1, 2024. People reported that the green engagement ring Affleck gave her in April 2022 was on her right hand and that she did not appear to wear her wedding ring at the event. The account was republished by Yahoo Entertainment: People’s report via Yahoo Entertainment.
Glamour’s August 3 coverage also described the engagement ring on Lopez’s right hand and relayed the wedding-ring observation from People: Glamour’s coverage. These reports document the occasion and the ring’s reported placement; they do not establish Lopez’s reason for wearing it there.
Which ring was it?
The contemporaneous People report identifies it as Affleck’s green engagement ring from 2022. In a separate report on the couple’s engagement announcement, The Independent described Lopez sharing a video that showed a green gemstone ring: The Independent’s 2022 report. That earlier account provides background on the engagement ring, but it is not evidence about Lopez’s reason for wearing it on her right hand in 2024.

What the sighting does—and does not—show
- Reported observation: At the August 1, 2024, New York City event, the engagement ring was on Lopez’s right hand.
- Another reported detail: She did not appear to be wearing her wedding ring at that outing.
- Not established: No cited report gives a statement from Lopez or Affleck explaining the placement or confirming what it meant for their relationship.
Coverage framed the sighting amid relationship speculation, but a ring’s position in event photographs cannot, on its own, confirm a relationship change or reveal someone’s motive. Phrases such as “switched her engagement ring to her right hand” describe the reported appearance; they are not proof that Lopez intended to send a message.
