That is what the report says the pictures showed: a public greeting during an outing. It cannot establish the couple’s private feelings, plans, or the state of their marriage.
What did the air kiss mean amid divorce rumors?
The sighting appeared amid entertainment coverage speculating about marital strain. Marie Claire cited anonymous-source accounts, which were not official statements from Lopez or Affleck. The article also mentioned Lopez canceling her This Is Me…Live tour and quoted an explanation attributed to a Live Nation representative; neither detail establishes what the air kiss meant.

It would be a mistake to treat the gesture as proof of reconciliation, separation, or any other private intention. The photograph and the rumors are different kinds of information: one concerns a reported public moment, while the other consists of claims circulating in entertainment coverage.

Lopez filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court on August 20, 2024, according to the Los Angeles Times. The filing came after the June air-kiss report; it does not retroactively verify the speculation that surrounded the sighting.

The Associated Press reported that a judge approved the divorce settlement on January 6, 2025, and that the divorce took effect February 21, 2025. The couple settled through mediation, neither was to pay spousal support, and most financial details were not public.

Lopez and Affleck had also ended an earlier relationship in 2004, before their later marriage. In its retrospective coverage, the Los Angeles Times quoted Lopez discussing that earlier breakup and the pressure of media scrutiny: “We lost a sense of ourselves, and we needed to separate because we didn’t know how to survive it,” she told Variety in February. That remark refers to the 2004 breakup, not the 2024 rumors or the later divorce.
