Jeff Bezos gave Lauren Sánchez’s debut children’s book, The Fly Who Flew to Space, a five-star review on Amazon. In a report published September 20, 2024, GeekWire quoted Bezos’s review: “This is the best children’s book my fiancée has ever written.”
What Bezos wrote in his Amazon review
GeekWire reported that Bezos posted the review on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, and described it as five stars. The report reproduced his sentence in full: “This is the best children’s book my fiancée has ever written.” Bezos and Sánchez were engaged when the review was reported. GeekWire’s report does not establish whether Amazon marked the review as a verified purchase or whether the praise reflected broader reader opinion.
What is The Fly Who Flew to Space about?
Sánchez’s first book is a hardcover picture book illustrated by Raleigh Stewart and published by The Collective Book Studio. Its protagonist, Flynn, is a fly who dreams of becoming an astronaut and embarks on a space adventure. The book was released September 10, 2024. Publishers Weekly’s prepublication feature describes it as a playful story that introduces STEM concepts, including gravity, G-force and the atmosphere, and notes its glow-in-the-dark design features.
Sánchez’s stated aim for the story
Sánchez said she hoped the book would encourage children facing educational challenges to keep exploring their interests. GeekWire quoted her describing that encouragement as helping children “keep wandering, daydreaming, and find what you’re really good at.” In Publishers Weekly, Sánchez said, “I hope Flynn inspires kids to dream big.” These are statements of the author’s intent, not evidence about how children respond to the book.
