Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding invitation asked guests to bring no gifts. Instead, it said the couple would make contributions in each guest’s honor to three Venice organizations: the UNESCO Venice Office, CORILA and Venice International University.
What did the invitation say?
TMZ reproduced the invitation’s central request: “We are excited for you to join us! We have one early request: please, no gifts.” The wording said donations would be made in guests’ honor and expressed gratitude for their journey to Venice. TMZ published the reproduced wording on June 24, 2025.
ABC News also reported that it obtained part of the invitation and described the no-gifts request and charitable contributions. ABC News’ account did not identify an amount for the contributions.
Which organizations were named?
| Organization | Purpose described in the invitation |
|---|---|
| UNESCO Venice Office | Safeguarding Venice’s cultural heritage |
| CORILA | Restoring lagoon habitats |
| Venice International University | Supporting research and education for sustainable solutions |
These descriptions come from Vogue’s June 28, 2025 wedding explainer. They state the purposes presented by the invitation; they do not establish how much money each organization received or how funds were ultimately used.

How the invitation fit the Venice wedding
The ceremony took place in Venice on Friday, June 27, 2025, after pre-wedding events and before a June 28 post-wedding party, according to Vogue. The event had about 200 invited guests and lasted three days.
The Associated Press reported that people close to the couple said roughly 80% of wedding provisions were sourced from Venetian vendors. That estimate concerned provisions, not the invitation itself. AP identified local suppliers including pastry maker Rosa Salva and Murano glass studio Laguna B. Read the Associated Press report.

Why the no-gifts request drew attention
The charitable wording appeared during public criticism of the wedding’s potential effect on Venice. ABC News reported protests by residents and groups including Greenpeace, with concerns about overtourism and disruption.
Wedding planners Lanza and Baucina told ABC News: “From the outset, instructions from our client and our own guiding principles were abundantly clear: the minimizing of any disruption to the city, the respect for its residents and institutions and the overwhelming employment of locals in the crafting of the events.” That is the planners’ stated intention, not an independent measurement of the event’s local impact.
