First meeting and dating: accounts differ
The accounts do not give one definitive start date. TIME reports that Jay-Z’s recollection in a 2007 Charlie Rose interview would place their first meeting around 1997. Beyoncé told Seventeen in 2008 that she met him when she was 18 and began dating him at 19, which points to a later period. These are attributed recollections, not a single agreed chronology. TIME says Jay-Z later described the pair as just beginning to try dating during the November 2001 Vanity Fair music issue photo shoot. Can Jay-Z’s alleged partners be ranked by net worth?
No defensible ranking can be built from the reviewed sources: they do not establish a complete roster of former partners or a comparable set of individual wealth estimates for them. Estimates from different publishers may use different dates, methods, and definitions, while a couple’s or household’s wealth is not the same as one person’s individual net worth. For historical context, Biography.com says Forbes named Jay-Z the first billionaire rap artist in June 2019. That milestone is not a current comparison with other people’s wealth.
