What award did Jay-Z accept with Blue Ivy?
Jay-Z received the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, a special recognition presented during the Grammy ceremony rather than a competitive award for a particular song, performance, or album. The Recording Academy says it created the award with its Black Music Collective to recognize Dr. Dre’s achievements and encourage the next generation of music creators. Dr. Dre received its inaugural presentation at the 2023 Grammy Awards. The Recording Academy’s account of the first award describes its purpose and origin.

How is the Global Impact Award different from a competitive Grammy?
The Global Impact Award recognizes an artist’s achievements and influence, with the stated aim of inspiring future music creators. Competitive Grammy categories, by contrast, honor work such as a specific album, recording, or performance. Jay-Z’s 2024 award was therefore not an Album of the Year win or a rap-category victory; it was a separate recognition presented during the ceremony. The award’s purpose and inaugural presentation are described by the Recording Academy.
