What is known about Jay North’s death
The Associated Press reported that North died at home in Lake Butler, Florida, on April 6, 2025. It attributed the information that he had colon cancer to longtime friend Laurie Jacobson and booking agent Bonnie Vent. The Washington Post also reported colon cancer as the cause, citing North’s co-star and longtime friend Jeannie Russell. The reports attribute the cause to those sources; they do not cite a death certificate or medical record.
Jacobson paid tribute to North in a Facebook post reproduced by the AP: “He had a heart as big as a mountain, loved his friends deeply. He called us frequently and ended every conversation with ‘I love you with all my heart,’” she wrote.
His defining role on Dennis the Menace
North was six when he was cast as Dennis Mitchell in the CBS sitcom, an adaptation of Hank Ketcham’s comic strip. The show began in 1959 and ran for four seasons, ending in 1963, according to the Associated Press. North’s performance made the mischievous boy his best-known role.
