What Jay Hanna experienced
In her 22 December 2024 PerthNow article, Hanna recounts receiving two Rejuran treatments at Ocean Cosmetics in Perth. She said numbing cream made the first session’s injections tolerable. The bumps were nearly gone after 48 hours, and she noticed a small bruise.
Her second session combined Rejuran with hydrating products, including hyaluronic acid. Hanna described it as more painful than the first; the more pronounced bumps took about 72 hours to disappear. What “salmon sperm facial” means here
The nickname can give the wrong impression. Hanna’s report says clinician Gina Messiha described Rejuran as containing polynucleotides (PN) derived from salmon DNA and explained that it is injected into the skin. The procedure Hanna tried was therefore an injectable treatment, not salmon-derived material applied to her face as a topical facial.

The article distinguishes polynucleotides (PN) from polydeoxyribonucleotides (PDRN). Those terms should not be treated as interchangeable descriptions of every product: a topical PDRN skincare product is not established as equivalent to Rejuran injections. What the clinical evidence can—and cannot—show
A 2025 systematic review by Lampridou and colleagues in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology included nine studies with 219 participants receiving PN treatment. The authors characterized the evidence as low to moderate in quality, noted variation in procedures, and called for rigorous, high-quality studies to validate effectiveness and safety. The findings may be promising, but they do not establish predictable results or prove claims such as skin regeneration or repair of damaged cells.

Celebrity attention is not medical evidence
PerthNow places Hanna’s trial in the context of celebrity interest, reporting that Kim Kardashian discussed the treatment with Kris Jenner on an episode of The Kardashians and identifying Jennifer Aniston as another enthusiast. Those references explain the treatment’s visibility; celebrity association is not proof that it works or a medical endorsement.
