What happened in Janaki Easwar’s “Lovely” audition?
Easwar sang “Lovely” during the show’s blind-audition round, where the coaches could hear her but could not see her. SBS reported that each of the four coaches turned around after hearing her performance. PerthNow reported that Rita Ora pressed her buzzer before the first chorus and that the audition ended with a standing ovation; those are the outlet’s accounts of the moment, rather than a measure of the performance.

In an interview with SBS, Easwar described the experience: “Getting on that stage and performing at the biggest singing show in Australia was a dream come true for me. I was hoping and praying for one of the coaches to turn their chair around, but when they all did, I was over the moon.” SBS’s interview with Janaki Easwar discusses her audition and musical background.
Which coach did Janaki Easwar choose?
After all four coaches turned their chairs, Easwar selected Jessica Mauboy as her coach. The audition therefore ended not just with a four-chair turn, but with Easwar choosing which team to join. PerthNow’s 9 August 2021 report covers the audition and her coach decision.

How did her musical background shape the performance?
Easwar had studied Carnatic music and violin from preschool and began Western music lessons in Year Four, according to SBS. PerthNow described her version of “Lovely” as incorporating “a little bit of Indian influence.” That context helps explain why coverage singled out the blend of musical styles, without implying that the cover was a traditional Carnatic rendition.
After the audition, the judges asked Easwar to sing an Indian song. She performed “Maathe,” a Daru Varnam in Raaga Kamaas, as reported by SBS.

What happened after the audition?
In November 2022, SBS reported that Easwar was set to perform with Icehouse and other artists before the T20 World Cup final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. This is a dated follow-up to the audition, not a claim about her present schedule or current career status.
