Jamie Lee Curtis said she was discussing Charlie Kirk’s faith in God—not praising his views or wishing him well—when she spoke about him on a podcast. In an interview published by Variety on October 28, 2025, she said an excerpt had “mistranslated” her meaning and that some of the backlash had been threatening.
What Curtis said about Charlie Kirk
On the September 15, 2025 episode of Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, Curtis said she disagreed with Kirk on “almost every point I ever heard him say.” She also spoke about his religious faith, saying, “I believe he was a man of faith, and I hope in that moment when he died that he felt connected to his faith.” The conversation came five days after Kirk was shot at Utah Valley University. Curtis became emotional as she spoke.

She described Kirk’s ideas as abhorrent to her while also referring to him as a father, husband and man of faith. Those points belong together: she expressed strong disagreement with his views and, separately, compassion about his faith and family.
What Curtis meant by “mistranslated”
In the Variety interview published October 28, Curtis said an excerpt of her remarks had made it sound as though she wished Kirk well or was speaking positively about him. As quoted by Us Weekly and The Independent, she said: “An excerpt of it mistranslated what I was saying as I wished him well — like I was talking about him in a very positive way, which I wasn’t; I was simply talking about his faith in God.”

Her clarification addressed how the excerpt was understood; it did not retract her stated disagreement with Kirk’s views or say that she supported his politics. Curtis also said, “I don’t have to be careful,” explaining that she could not avoid being herself in the moment.

Coverage of the response described online criticism and confusion, but did not establish a reliable count or representative measure of public opinion. Some reports connected criticism to Kirk’s public positions on transgender people and Curtis’s transgender daughter. That provides context for the discussion, but does not establish the motives of every person who objected.
Rank #2
Curtis also spoke about a wider concern: repeated exposure to violent imagery online. That was her expressed concern, not a quantified finding about the psychological effects of such exposure.
