RTÉ reports the earlier casting history, while Netflix’s film announcement lists Keoghan among the cast of The Immortal Man. Neither the cast announcement nor the coverage cited here gives a reason for the switch to Bell, so claims about a dispute, scheduling, or other cause would be speculation. RTÉ’s report and Netflix’s film announcement provide the reported context.
Where and when the new series is set
The story moves to post-war Birmingham, a decade after World War Two. Creator and writer Steven Knight described it as “a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 50s.” Netflix says the series follows the feature film and introduces a new generation of the gang. Netflix’s series announcement has the setting and Knight’s statement.
