The trailer for James Gunn’s Superman arrived on May 14, 2025, so it is no longer “coming very soon.” Before its release, I wanted four things from it—more dialogue, more Clark Kent, more supporting heroes and more Krypto—and hoped it would avoid recycling too much footage. DC’s official breakdown shows how the trailer addressed those wishes.
Why the trailer is no longer upcoming
TechRadar published its preview on May 13, 2025, anticipating a new trailer. DC released the trailer the next day. This is therefore a retrospective look at a wish list, not a current release announcement. The original preview’s headline promised four things to see and one to avoid; its introduction inconsistently called them “three things.” The list below follows the four distinct wishes in the article.
Read the original TechRadar preview.
Four things I wanted from the trailer
1. More dialogue
The first trailer, as the preview’s author described it, offered only a couple of lines from Clark or Superman and little speech from the rest of the cast. The next one was a chance to hear Lois Lane and Lex Luthor speak, making their personalities and relationships clearer than action shots alone could.
2. More Clark Kent away from the suit
Superman’s powers and rescues are central to the film, but Clark’s civilian life is part of the character too. I wanted more of his work at the Daily Planet and his life at home with his adoptive parents—the people and places that show who he is when he is not acting as a superhero.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. More of the other heroes
The preview asked for more of Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern (Guy Gardner) and Metamorpho, ideally with glimpses of how they interact with Superman. Introducing several heroes in a crowded film can make each one feel like a passing cameo; a little character interplay can help audiences understand the team dynamic.
4. More Krypto
Krypto, Superman’s energetic canine companion, was another desired highlight. A little more of the dog’s personality and his place in Superman’s life would add a different kind of energy to a trailer otherwise focused on conflict and spectacle.

The one thing I hoped it would avoid: recycled footage
The final wish was for the trailer not to lean too heavily on shots or sequences already shown in earlier promotional material. Some repeated footage is normal in a film campaign, but a new trailer is more useful when it offers fresh character moments or story context instead of simply assembling familiar images again.
What the May 14 trailer actually showed
DC’s official analysis describes a three-minute trailer organized around an interview between Lois Lane and Superman. Their exchange gives the preview a more conversational center, including a serious moment between them. The footage also visits the Kents and Clark’s home life, shows Jimmy Olsen at the Daily Planet, and gives appearances to the Engineer, Mister Terrific, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Metamorpho and Lex Luthor. Krypto gets a memorable action beat defending the Fortress of Solitude.

The trailer also supplies the dialogue the earlier wish list wanted. Jonathan Kent tells Clark, “Your choices, your actions, that’s what makes you who you are.” Lex frames his opposition in stark terms: “He’s not a man, he’s an ‘it’ that’s somehow become the focal point of the entire world’s conversation. I will not accept that.” Both quotations are reproduced in DC.com’s trailer analysis.
Those details make the released trailer a direct answer to much of the wish list: it puts dialogue and Clark’s civilian world alongside the superhero imagery, gives multiple supporting characters screen time, and features Krypto in an active moment. The cited official breakdown does not establish whether every shot was new rather than reused, so that final preference cannot be judged from it alone.
