Which Big Bang Theory episode features James Earl Jones?
Jones appears in “The Convention Conundrum,” Season 7, Episode 14. Apple TV lists the episode’s release date as January 30, 2014, and identifies Jones and Carrie Fisher as guest stars. Both actors play themselves in the story, rather than fictional characters. Apple TV’s episode listing describes Sheldon spending a “wild night” with Jones.
Why does Sheldon track down James Earl Jones?
The story begins when Sheldon and his friends cannot get tickets to Comic-Con. Sheldon responds by deciding to start his own convention and trying to secure a headline panelist. Executive producer Steven Molaro explained the setup in a January 20, 2014, TV Guide preview: “For the first time, the guys are unable to get Comic-Con tickets,” so Sheldon attempts to start his own convention. After everyone on his list hangs up on him, he sets his sights on Jones and tracks him down.
Jones is an especially striking choice for Sheldon: TV Guide’s contemporaneous coverage of the guest roles identified him as the voice of Darth Vader. That connection gives the appearance a Star Wars link, though Jones appears as himself in the episode.

How does the guest appearance take an unexpected turn?
Sheldon’s intended outcome is straightforward: persuade Jones to help make his convention a success. The episode’s synopsis points to a different kind of payoff, describing a wild night shared by the two. The shift is from a planned recruitment pitch to an unlikely social outing—the unexpected turn in Sheldon’s story.
Carrie Fisher also appears as herself, in a cameo Molaro called “interesting” in the TV Guide preview. Her presence adds another Star Wars connection to the episode, alongside Jones’s association with Darth Vader.

What the episode does—and does not—say about Jones
The available episode listing and contemporary coverage establish Jones’s role and the story’s setup, but they do not document Jones describing whether the appearance met his expectations. The “didn’t go as expected” angle is best understood as a description of Sheldon’s plan changing course, not as a claim about Jones’s private reaction.
