Late-August reports offer competing candidate lists, while producer Amy Pascal’s reported year-end announcement comment is an expectation—not a deadline. A 2028 release has been reported, but the studio has not announced a date.
Who will be the next James Bond?
No successor to Daniel Craig has been officially announced. Amazon MGM Studios said on May 14, 2026: “The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.” The statement confirms an active search, not a decision or any candidate’s involvement. Read Amazon MGM’s statement.
The next film follows No Time to Die (2021), which concluded Craig’s tenure as Bond. The confirmed creative team includes director Denis Villeneuve, producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, executive producer Tanya Lapointe, and screenwriter Steven Knight.
Who is on the Bond 26 shortlist?
There is no studio-confirmed shortlist. Late-August entertainment reports described different versions of the field, so a “top three” should not be read as an authoritative casting list.

Six names in one reported screen-test group
Page Six reporting cited by JOE described Jack Barton, Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, and Harris Dickinson as a group undergoing screen tests. JOE called Barton a surprising frontrunner on the strength of that report; AS/MeriStation separately characterized Turner and Barton as leading names among the rumored candidates. These are attributed media descriptions, not confirmation from Amazon MGM. JOE’s account of the six-name report; AS/MeriStation’s report.
Why a “top three” is not settled
Other secondary coverage has circulated a three-name version, but the available reports do not establish it as an official or definitive shortlist. The six-name screen-test account and the separate three-person claim should not be combined into a single ranking. The evidence supports reporting who has been named and how a publication characterized them; it does not establish audition results, contracts, or the candidates’ chances of winning the role.

When will the next 007 be announced?
Producer Amy Pascal was reported by Euronews, recounting her interview with Deadline, as saying: “I would say the end of the year is a good bet.” She also said the team was being “really, really methodical,” adding that Craig was “a hard act to follow” and the new film needed to feel different, stirring, and exciting. Her remark indicates an expectation, not a scheduled announcement or studio commitment. Euronews’ account of Pascal’s comments.

Euronews reported that production was expected to begin in 2027 and that release was planned for 2028. Those are reported expectations: Amazon MGM’s May 2026 statement did not provide a production schedule, release window, or date. A 2028 arrival is therefore not an officially dated release.
