Jailbreak: Love on the Run is a 2024 Netflix documentary about Alabama corrections officer Vicky White and inmate Casey White, whom she helped escape in 2022. Netflix lists the film at 1 hour, 28 minutes and 43 seconds. Its story follows the escape, the 11-day manhunt and the relationship behind it.
What is Jailbreak: Love on the Run about?
Netflix describes the documentary as the story of a corrections officer who falls in love with an inmate awaiting trial for murder and helps him escape. Casey White is described in Netflix’s media listing as a violent felon; the escape prompted a high-profile manhunt and intense media attention. The film examines how the relationship and escape unfolded through accounts from Vicky’s friends and former colleagues.
Netflix Tudum says the documentary also includes recordings of calls between Vicky and Casey that had not previously been heard publicly. Executive producer Rachel Stockman characterizes Vicky’s private life as something her co-workers knew little about, saying: “What made Vicky’s story so surprising was how trapped she felt and how little her co-workers knew about her private life.” That is Stockman’s interpretation of the story, not an independently established psychological finding.
What happened to Vicky and Casey White?
Vicky White had worked at the Lauderdale County Detention Center for 17 years, according to Netflix Tudum. In 2022, she helped Casey escape custody. Netflix Tudum’s recap says authorities pursued the pair for 11 days before Casey was apprehended. The same recap reports that Vicky died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound when the pursuit ended.

The recap also reports that investigators found a handcuff key and Casey’s prison-issued footwear in Vicky’s car. It says a secret phone number used by the couple had been in contact with Casey more than 1,000 times over the prior two years. These details are reported by Netflix Tudum’s account of the documentary.
Former inmate Tyler Purser, quoted in the recap, says of Vicky: “She treated everybody like they were somebody.” Former corrections nurse Kylie O’Bryant describes the cost of the escape this way: “She gave [Casey] 11 days of freedom,” says former corrections nurse Kylie O’Bryant in Jailbreak: Love on the Run. “And it cost her her life.”

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is it Netflix’s latest true-crime hit?
The available title information establishes that Jailbreak: Love on the Run is a Netflix documentary released in 2024; it does not establish that the film is Netflix’s latest true-crime hit. Netflix’s title page and media listing do not provide a current ranking, and the release date alone cannot show how it compares with later documentaries. “Latest” is therefore not a reliable description of its current status.
