Jacob Elordi said the “Saltburn” bathwater candle smelled like “a washing room. Like detergent.” He gave the verdict after Jimmy Fallon presented him with the fan-made novelty candle on The Tonight Show, turning the film’s notorious bathtub scene into a late-night joke.
What did Jacob Elordi say about the candle?
During his Jan. 18, 2024 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Fallon showed Elordi a candle inspired by Saltburn. PerthNow’s account of the exchange reports Fallon asking, “There is this bathtub scene. It inspired people to release Jacob Elordi Bathwater candles. Have you seen these at all?”
Elordi smelled the candle and joked along, pretending to slurp it in a nod to the scene. He then asked who was making money from the candles, quipping, “I want to know who’s making the money, you know? I must be rich! Where’s my money?” His scent verdict, as reported by PerthNow, was: “It smells like a washing room. Like detergent.” E! News also described his reaction as detergent-like and reported that he said, “His clothes are clean.”
He did not dismiss the scent: coverage of the exchange says he added that it was not bad and that he liked it. The quoted lines come from contemporaneous reports of the appearance, rather than a verified full episode transcript. PerthNow’s account and E! News’ coverage both recount the reaction.

Why is there a ‘Saltburn’ bathwater candle?
The candle’s name refers to a scene in the 2023 film Saltburn: Oliver Quick, played by Barry Keoghan, drinks bathwater left behind after Felix Catton, played by Elordi, uses the tub. The fan-made candle turns that shocking moment into a deliberately provocative joke.
The name is not evidence that a candle contains bathwater or reproduces a real person’s scent. Elordi’s reaction was to the novelty product presented on the show; he did not say that he made or endorsed it, and his joke about wanting a share of the money should not be taken as evidence that he receives proceeds.

Is there one official scent or version?
No single canonical candle or standard fragrance is established by the available coverage. A Jan. 31, 2024 Elite Daily review said its writer tried six different candles and requested sellers’ most popular scents. The writer found ordinary candle fragrances behind the joke labels; that was one writer’s sample, not a controlled test or a count of every product available.
Commerce roundups in January 2024 identified versions listed on Amazon and Etsy, including reports from The Daily Beast and Cosmopolitan. Those historical listings show that physical novelty candles were offered, but they do not establish current stock, prices, a single maker, or whether any listing remains available.
