What did Jack White say?
TheWrap reported White’s Instagram response as: “Being insulted by the actual White House that this particular conman leads is a badge of honor for me.” The Daily Beast also reported the “badge of honor” framing. White’s words were a response to Cheung’s personal insult, not a formal statement issued under a White House institutional byline.
White’s original post also addressed politics beyond the decor. The Daily Beast reported that he described himself as “not a Democrat” but “a human being raised in Detroit,” and acknowledged that he does not always know all the facts. His descriptions of Trump administration conduct and policy were White’s opinions and accusations; the reporting on the exchange does not independently establish those claims.

What did Steven Cheung say about Jack White?
The Daily Beast reported Cheung, identified as White House communications director, wrote: “Jack White is a washed up, has-been loser posting drivel on social media because he clearly has ample time on his hands due to his stalled career.” TheWrap also reported Cheung’s insult. It was a personal response by the communications director, rather than a formal White House statement under the institution’s name.
Why did White call the insult a badge of honor?
White turned the attack into a pointed retort: he treated an insult from the White House under Trump as validation of his criticism. The “badge of honor” phrase captures his response to Cheung; it does not establish the accuracy of White’s separate political allegations.
