No. Jack Black did not say that Kung Fu Panda 4 was his final performance as Po. In March 2024, he said he was taking the character’s future “one panda at a time.” His remark about doing a project “like it’s the last one” described the energy he brings to projects generally—not an announcement that he was leaving the role.
What Jack Black said about Po’s future
In a March 10, 2024 interview with Devansh Sharma for Hindustan Times, Black addressed speculation about whether he would continue voicing Po: “Honestly, I just take it one panda at a time.” He said he had enjoyed playing Po and did not want to predict how far the franchise might go. He also joked, “We’re definitely going to do 5,6,7,8, and 9,” before adding that he did not know whether there would be a tenth film. That playful remark was not confirmation that sequels had been approved.
Black added, “And I hope it goes on forever,” referring to having opportunities to perform. His comments expressed enthusiasm and uncertainty, not a retirement announcement.
What “like it’s the last one” meant
A separate interview report by Richard Martin for 1News on March 26, 2024, quoted Black saying: “That’s kind of the energy I like to bring to projects where I’m like ‘I’m gonna rock this one out like it’s the last one’.” The key context is “to projects”: he was describing how he approaches his work, not identifying Kung Fu Panda 4 as his last film as Po. Why the “final fight” idea fits the story—but not the interview
Kung Fu Panda 4 does give Po a major transition. According to the official Universal Pictures synopsis, Po is called to become Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace and must find and train a new Dragon Warrior. He teams up with Zhen, a corsac fox, and faces the Chameleon.
That succession story may make the film feel like a turning point for the hero, but the synopsis does not say Black is leaving the role or that the franchise is ending. The film is a 2024 animated family comedy directed by Mike Mitchell, rated PG, and runs 1 hour 34 minutes, according to Universal.
What the franchise figures do—and don’t—tell us
Franchise totals are evidence of commercial scale, not evidence that a sequel or a performer’s return is guaranteed. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s May 21, 2024 press release reported that the franchise had grossed more than $2 billion worldwide with the release of Kung Fu Panda 4. DreamWorks Animation’s official film page states a total above $1.8 billion, but does not date that figure. The sources do not establish why the totals differ, so neither figure should be treated as a current audited total.

Universal’s home-entertainment page lists Kung Fu Panda 4 in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD, as well as a four-film collection. The May 21, 2024 press release gave May 28, 2024 as the Digital and physical home-video release date and listed bonus material including deleted scenes, a short, commentary, and a behind-the-scenes feature.
