The 2022 Netflix comedy also follows a magician’s romantic ambitions, but the footballers supply the strongest sense of camaraderie and momentum. Whether that is enough to carry a 167-minute film depends on how much patience you have for its uneven mix of sports, romance and magic.
What is Jaadugar about?
Netflix describes Jaadugar as a comedy about a small-town magician who has little interest in football but must lead his local team to a tournament final if he wants to marry the woman he loves. The film stars Jitendra Kumar, Arushi Sharma and Jaaved Jaaferi; Netflix also lists Manoj Joshi and Rukshar Dhillon in the cast. The streaming service categorizes it among Indian and Hindi-language titles, as well as drama, comedy and sports.
Scroll.in’s review identifies the setting as Neemuch and the competition as the Shrikant Dabholkar tournament. Reviewer Nandini Ramnath describes the film as a mix of sports comedy, coming-of-age drama, romance and magic, and reports a runtime of 167 minutes.
Why the gully footballers win the film
The amateur squad is where the film finds its liveliest material. Ramnath, writing for Scroll.in, says Jaadugar is at its entertaining best around the football field. The team’s ordinary players and local tournament become more compelling than the romance or Meenu’s aspirations as a magician. She calls the squad “the real magicians of Jaadugar,” shifting the film’s most satisfying sense of wonder away from the title character’s tricks and toward the group on the pitch.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That distinction also explains the film’s central tension: its footballers feel like the heart of the story, even though the plot keeps pulling attention toward Meenu’s personal goals. Ramnath notes that the movie seems keen to avoid a familiar underdog-team formula, but concludes that “it’s the formula that wins, and the football that sticks.” The team scenes are the clearest reason to watch, though they do not make the rest of the film disappear.
Jitendra Kumar, magic and the film’s uneven balance
Tanushree Roy’s India Today review is less enthusiastic about the overall execution. She calls the concept promising but says the film is overlong and would have benefited from tighter editing. In her view, the sports material does not have the effect it needs to, even as she praises Kumar’s acting, dialogue delivery and screen presence, along with his magic tricks. Her verdict is captured in the phrase “A great concept but a failed execution.”

The two reviews therefore disagree less about whether Kumar makes an impression than about what the film’s different strands add up to. For Ramnath, the football ensemble is the standout attraction, stronger than the romance and magic ambitions. For Roy, Kumar’s performance and tricks are bright spots in a stretched, uneven film whose sports story does not fully land. Neither review suggests that one strong element neatly solves the film’s structural problems.
Is the 167-minute runtime worth it?
At 167 minutes, according to Scroll.in’s review, Jaadugar asks for a substantial time commitment. Ramnath’s account suggests that the football sections justify more of that time than the competing romantic and magician storylines. Roy’s criticism of the film’s length points to the opposite risk: the premise and performance may not sustain the full stretch for viewers who want a tighter comedy or a more focused sports drama.

Verdict: Watch Jaadugar for its football-team moments and Kumar’s screen presence, not because every strand is equally successful.
