Blink Twice begins with the promise of a glamorous private-island escape and steadily turns that fantasy into a source of dread. Zoë Kravitz’s 2024 psychological thriller is built around that reversal: what looks like carefree indulgence becomes unsettling as Frida starts to question what is happening around her.
What is Blink Twice about?
Frida, a cocktail waitress played by Naomi Ackie, meets tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) at a fundraising gala. When he invites her to his private island, the trip seems like an extraordinary vacation. But strange events begin to make Frida doubt her surroundings and her own sense of reality. That dream-to-suspicion progression is the central suspense engine described by Warner Bros.’ official film site.
A Washington Post interview adds context to Slater’s setup: he is a charismatic tech mogul who retreats to the island after an unexplained public-relations crisis. That detail makes the invitation feel less like a simple fantasy and more like entry into a world whose rules Frida does not control.
Does the film deliver on its “good time” promise?
As a film-discovery pick, Blink Twice has an appealing contrast at its core. The sunlit island, party atmosphere and luxury establish the pleasure of the getaway; the same setting grows ominous as Frida notices that something is wrong. The “good time” is therefore not a promise of uncomplicated fun so much as a knowingly unstable setup: the invitation is attractive, and the question is when that attraction becomes fear.

The film also has a clear point of view about power and safety in spaces shaped by wealth. In its August 23, 2024 review, The Atlantic placed it among stories about wealthy hosts and unsafe retreats, praising its sharp perspective while arguing that the shift from social unease to horror-movie violence and the crowded subplots weaken some of its earlier observations. That is one critic’s assessment, not a consensus, but it captures a useful expectation: the film’s atmospheric tension and its more forceful horror elements may not work equally well for every viewer.
What did critics make of it?
The reception is mixed rather than unanimous. Rotten Tomatoes’ displayed critics consensus calls the film a “bold and memorable debut” for Kravitz, while The Atlantic pairs praise for its point of view with reservations about its ending and the number of subplots. Taken together, those responses suggest a debut with a distinctive premise and atmosphere, alongside choices that some critics found less successful as the story reaches its conclusion.

Who is in the cast, and how long is it?
Ackie and Tatum lead the film as Frida and Slater. Warner Bros.’ official ensemble listing also names Alia Shawkat, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Christian Slater, Kyle MacLachlan and Geena Davis. Apple TV’s US listing identifies it as a 2024 film with a runtime of 1 hour 42 minutes.
Where can you watch Blink Twice?
The film has pages on Prime Video and Apple TV, but a listing alone does not establish whether it is currently included with a subscription, available to rent or buy, or accessible in a particular country. The Associated Press reported in January 2025 that Prime Video subscribers would get the film beginning January 21, 2025; that dated report describes a past streaming window, not current availability. Choose Blink Twice if you want a psychological thriller that starts with an alluring escape and uses that fantasy to build unease, or if you are curious about Kravitz’s feature directorial debut. Go in expecting a shift toward horror and a story whose social observations and final stretch have drawn different critical responses. It is less suited to someone looking for a straightforward vacation comedy or a thriller that stays restrained throughout.
