Yilong Ma is publicly reported as a Chinese creator whose videos resemble Elon Musk, and he has appeared in an interview. But the available reporting does not independently verify his legal identity or authenticate every viral clip. Musk’s reported wish to meet him was explicitly conditional: “if he is real.” No source cited here establishes that they met.
Who is Yilong Ma?
News coverage describes Ma as a Chinese online creator known for looking like Musk and for making short-form videos in a stylized Musk persona. Sixth Tone reported that he first went viral on Douyin in November 2020; that date is a reported timeline, not an independently audited platform record. Sixth Tone’s 2026 feature revisits his public persona and activity.
A 2023 video interview also featured a person presented as Ma. That is evidence of a public appearance, but it does not by itself establish his legal identity or authenticate every video associated with him. The interview offers context, not a definitive identity check.
What did Elon Musk say about meeting him?
In late 2021, Musk reportedly joked, “Maybe I’m partly Chinese!” after the lookalike drew attention. In May 2022, he reportedly said, “I’d like to meet this guy (if he is real).” The qualification matters: Musk’s remark expressed interest while leaving the person’s authenticity unresolved. The quotes were reported by the South China Morning Post, but the original posts were not directly retrieved for this account. South China Morning Post coverage and its earlier report recount the exchange.

The sources reviewed do not report that Musk and Ma met. A stated desire to meet is not evidence that a meeting took place.
Is Yilong Ma a deepfake?
The available reporting does not establish that Ma is definitively an AI deepfake, nor does it technically verify that his viral clips are unaltered. A person appearing in an interview and continuing to post publicly are relevant context, but neither substitutes for identity verification or forensic analysis of particular footage. Coverage has discussed suspicion around the lookalike, but suspicion is not a technical finding. Kurier’s 2025 feature provides additional context without settling the question.

It is therefore more accurate to separate three claims: a creator is publicly presented as Yilong Ma; reporting describes a resemblance to Musk; and the authenticity of his identity and individual clips has not been independently established by the sources cited here. The third claim should not be collapsed into a definite accusation of deepfakery.

Sixth Tone reported renewed activity in 2026, including a video message Ma posted during President Donald Trump’s May visit to China. In the clip, Ma addressed Musk with, “Welcome to China, Elon Musk.” The feature documents continued activity around the persona; it does not report that Musk met Ma. Sixth Tone’s account is the recent source for this development.
