Vi and Caitlyn’s romance is canon in Arcane: Season 2 shows their first kiss, and the writer of that scene said it was meant to be romantic. The creative team also intended the pair to be back together by the finale. The show’s romantic story is clear, though the cited creator comments do not establish a formal label such as “girlfriends.”
What makes Vi and Caitlyn canon in Arcane?
The clearest evidence is on screen: in Season 2, Vi and Caitlyn share their first kiss. Amanda Overton, who wrote the scene, told the Los Angeles Times that “Because it was their first kiss we needed it to be romantic in every way.” That makes the moment more than an ambiguous gesture or a reading based only on audience interpretation.
Overton’s account is especially relevant because she was discussing the scene’s purpose as its writer. Hailee Steinfeld, who voices Vi, has also described their bond as “so beautiful and so complex” in Netflix Tudum. Steinfeld’s comments add context, but the kiss and Overton’s explanation establish the romantic intent more directly.
Do Vi and Caitlyn end up together?
The creative team intended for them to reunite by the finale. In a 2025 Cartoon Brew conversation, Overton said the reunion episode gave the pair a path to a finale that cemented their relationship and happy ending, and that the intention was for them to be back together by the finale.

That supports saying the series ends with a reconciliation and a positive romantic outcome. It does not, by itself, define every detail of their future or establish a specific long-term status beyond what the show depicts.
Does Arcane call them girlfriends?
The cited scene and creator comments establish a canon romance, but they do not establish that the series formally labels Vi and Caitlyn “girlfriends.” It is therefore accurate to call them a romantic couple or say their relationship is canon; a more specific official status is not supported by these sources.

Does League of Legends canon change the answer?
Arcane is based on League of Legends and was produced in partnership with Riot Games and Fortiche Production, as described by the Netflix Media Center. But this question can be answered from the series itself: its Season 2 story depicts the romance. Details from another franchise continuity should not automatically be treated as identical to Arcane’s story.

Netflix identifies Season 2 as Arcane’s final season and says both seasons are streaming in its Season 2 guide. Within that completed story, Vi and Caitlyn’s romance is canon, and the creative team intended their finale to show them back together. What remains unspecified in the cited material is a formal relationship label or a detailed account of their long-term future.
