TO BE HERO X can work as a follow-up for viewers who want another superhero story built around public image, competition and a large hero ensemble. It is not a continuation of My Hero Academia, though, and its original premise makes it a different kind of watch—not a substitute for Deku or the established MHA cast.
What is TO BE HERO X about?
TO BE HERO X is an original animated series from bilibili, BeDream and Aniplex, with Haolin Lee credited for the original story and direction. Its defining idea is that belief can create a hero’s abilities. The official series site puts it this way: “In a world of brilliant heroes, it’s the trust of their fans that makes them into superheroes.” It adds: “If a hero loses the people’s trust, he loses his special abilities.”
That rule is more specific than a story about heroes simply being famous. Public trust is quantified as Trust Value, and the values inform a ranking of the heroes. The official premise describes a tournament every two years that updates those values and rankings, with X at the top. As a result, reputation is not just background celebrity: it is tied directly to power and status.
How does it compare with My Hero Academia?
| Question | TO BE HERO X | What that means for an MHA viewer |
|---|---|---|
| What makes a hero powerful? | Public belief sustains abilities, and Trust Values shape rankings. | It offers a distinct superhero premise centered on trust and public opinion. |
| Who are the characters? | An original ensemble of ten top heroes, including X, Queen, Dragon Boy and Ghostblade. | It does not continue the stories of Deku or the My Hero Academia cast. |
| Is it part of the same story world? | No. The official site presents it as an original series. | Watch it as a separate series, not as an MHA sequel or spin-off. |
| What visual approach does it use? | The official site describes it as a multi-style animation series; Fuji TV described opening footage that crosses 2D and 3D. | Its stated production approach gives it a point of distinction, but does not establish that every viewer will prefer its visuals. |
The official My Hero Academia site represents a separate franchise. The comparison is useful at the level of superhero storytelling, not shared continuity. The primary material cited here does not establish a season-length or episode-count comparison, nor enough to make firm claims about relative pacing or school-life emphasis.

Who is most likely to enjoy it after MHA?
- Try it if you want a new superhero world where audience trust has measurable consequences, rankings change, and multiple heroes share the spotlight.
- It may appeal if you follow Hiroyuki Sawano’s music or are curious about an animation production described by its creators as multi-style.
- Choose something else if what you want is more of Deku’s story, the same cast, or a direct continuation of My Hero Academia.
The series’ official Japanese voice cast includes Mamoru Miyano as X, Kana Hanazawa as Queen, Koki Uchiyama as Dragon Boy, Yuichi Nakamura as Ghostblade and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Little Johnny, among others. Its official music credits list “INERTIA” by SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Rei as the opening theme, “KONTINUUM” by SennaRin as the ending theme, and “JEOPARDY” by Hiroyuki SAWANO as the main theme. A notable cast or music credit can help you decide whether to sample a show, but it cannot guarantee that its story will suit you.
When and where did it launch?
Aniplex lists the Japanese Fuji TV broadcast as beginning April 6, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. Its streaming dates are also Japan launch-era listings: Netflix and Prime Video began April 7, 2025, while a larger group of services began April 9. Those dates do not confirm present availability, subscription inclusion or catalog status in another country. Check a service’s current local catalog before subscribing or buying access. Aniplex also lists Japanese Blu-ray and DVD volumes released from July through November 2025, but those listings alone do not establish current stock, disc-region compatibility or subtitle options.
Rank #2
Fuji TV’s December 9, 2024 announcement described the production as a new original animation jointly produced by bilibili and Aniplex and announced its planned Sunday morning Japanese broadcast slot. Aniplex’s official series page gives the specific April 6, 2025 broadcast launch date and launch-era Japanese streaming listings.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is it the perfect replacement?
“Perfect” depends on what you want to replace. If you want another animated superhero series with an ensemble, competition and an unusual rule linking public opinion to power, TO BE HERO X is a plausible next watch. If you want the same characters, story or continuity as My Hero Academia, it will not provide that. The available official material establishes the premise and production, not an objective quality ranking or evidence that viewers generally prefer one series over the other.
