Is The Conjuring: Last Rites the Final Movie in the Main Franchise?

Yes. The Conjuring: Last Rites is the fourth film in the main, Ed-and-Lorraine-Warren series, and it was presented as the Warrens’ final case. That makes it the finale of the core franchise—not proof that every film in the wider Conjuring universe is over.

Which movie is The Conjuring 4?

The fourth main-series movie is The Conjuring: Last Rites, directed by Michael Chaves and starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as Lorraine and Ed Warren. The official film site identifies it as the ninth entry in the wider Conjuring universe: The Conjuring: Last Rites official site.

What does “final movie” mean for the franchise?

The finale claim applies to the main Warren-led story. Official marketing framed Ed and Lorraine’s return as one last case, while the Associated Press described Last Rites as ending the franchise and also noted its spinoffs: Associated Press coverage of Last Rites.

It does not establish that the entire shared universe has ended. The wider series includes films such as Annabelle and The Nun, which are distinct from the four main Warren films. Channel NewsAsia’s report on James Wan’s comments attributes “phase one” language to New Line executive Richard Brener, suggesting the main chapter may be complete while leaving broader continuation possible: Channel NewsAsia on the franchise’s future. That report is not confirmation that another film has been made or officially announced.
